In the past I've made a similar thread: https://thef95zone.info/threads/what-do-you-like-about-breeding-games.192963/ (feel free to contribute further)
However, this time I have more specific questions regarding the genre:

1. How important are animations specifically in breeding games?
Of course everyone likes animations (if done well), but how much more important are animations in breeding games? So far, all the examples I've seen contain animations, is that an important factor of the genre or would you play a game with static images that focuses more on the "novel" part (describing the sex and dialogue between characters while showing CGs with variants, think of the average japanese VN).

2. Is it NTR?
I know technically it is not, it would fall under the "sharing", however it is safe to assume that if you hate NTR, you also hate sharing (or at least I do).
I would be interested in hearing from someone that hates NTR to know what they enjoy about breeding games.
Something else I also find confusing is that a breeding game used to have NTR, which was hated, yet with "breeding mechanics" you're still sharing.
I can kind of see why NTR would be more hated than sharing, but I can't understand how someone that hates NTR would be okay with sharing, or is it more like a mechanic you just accept for the sake of all the rest, and you could do without?

3. What is the purpose of Futa?
All of the breeding games also seem to include futa, but what's the purpose of it? If you fill all slots with futa, won't you be stuck in a state where you cannot breed anymore, soft-locking yourself out? And if they also have a vagina, what's the purpose of the penis attached to them?
Is it simply a fetish, or is there a mechanic that I am not noticing? If it was simply a fetish, I'd assume there'd be some breeding games without futa, yet all of them do have it, so I was wondering if they're an important factor.

4. What to do with the "offspring"?
Incest is of course not a possibility, so the offspring would continue to breed with other males? However, if you don't like ntr/sharing (or in general watching other characters have sex), does the offspring become completely useless, making the breeding genre impossible?
Or is there any other use for the offspring if you were to discard thr ntr/sharing bit? For example, sending them off their own way or any other thing done "in the background".

I think these are all the questions I have. If you want to add more or explain the genre (and what you like) in more depth, that'd be also greatly appreciated.

Can't say I am a huge fan of breeding games buuut I like throwing my shitty opinions around from time to time so you are in luck today

1. Eh, depends. The problem I have with breeding games is that animations are sort of all they have to offer sometimes.
I feel like once you see an animation once in Breeding Season for example it kind of gets stale and boring to breed the same species multiple times. Without animations that would be even worse.
I wouldn't find animations to be important if the game has something else good to offer: story, mechanics, atmosphere, etc.

2. I would love to believe that adults getting into a breeding game have developed the common sense to know what it is that they are getting into and would not be bothered by these kinds of mechanics.
Some people might have the unhealthy expectations for the player character to be the only one breeding multiple characters, a harem breeding of sorts, but honestly I believe people who hate NTR and people who love NTR actually have very small intersections with people who are into breeding who probably like it regardless of the participants.

As someone who likes NTR and sharing I can safely say I never played some breeding game and thought about the NTR aspect of it especially since it would require some level of emotional connection between the participants (Not saying I would mind a dark emotionally heavy NTR breeding game though).

3. Since futa are supposed to have both types of genitals they can fit both roles in a breeding game. Many games also focus on different species breeding or passing and mutating traits so why not just slap a dick on a woman and call it a day.

I don't think there is anything more to futa than a low hanging fruit in adding some diversity to the game.

4. Since you don't want to do incest (lame), I would once again assume players would simply accept that the offspring would breed with other characters.
Optionally you could find an interesting reason to avoid the offspring problem.

Quick Example: Some human farm run by demons, they bring fresh adult men and women in order to breed them. Offspring get collected by demons for whatever reason, the parents get rewarded and new humans get eventually brought to the farm.
Is there a chance the new humans might be some of your own offspring ?
The chance is not 0 but who knows and who cares.

1. I've played a few type of breeding games and personally I love when the animation is very smooth and fluid. I think it's a more important part as it's more or less the reward for the game play loop of breeding.

2. I wouldn't say it's NTR as I've played some games where you as the farmer is the breeder so you're having all the sex with the live stock( the game had anthropomorphic animals). Tho I can see what peeps mean if let's say it's a family and the wife or daughter has sex with the live stock.

3. I think the futa thing is mostly a fetish thing along with wanting to see a futa breed with a female as well (less male to watch get it on)

4. With the games I've played they either don't care about the incest happening and let it continue or the offspring is sold or can't be used for breeding anymore and you can sell it.

1. It is probably the same as other hentai games, animations are preferred but people tolerate text based, communities are generally more tolerate of a game the more niche it is, breeding doesn't seem like that niche of a kink so the community might be a little more toxic then something like hardcore femdom.

2. There are two main groups, people who don't like NTR for the cucking/cheating aspect but like group sex, and those who just don't want any other man in a sexual encounter near them. group one will likely be fine with breeding, group two will not.

3. People who are into group sex are likely a little bisexual if they want to admit it or not, futa is like the ultimate bisexual fantasy plaything having the body of a woman and the cock of a man.

4. Breed your kids. :devilish:

1. I don't think animations are that important unless you're making a 3D game, there are plenty of 2D breeding games (mostly japanese) that have nothing but static scenes and as a personal apreciation i'd rather have a ton of scenes with the creatures and npc per update than a few animated. Breeding scenes are supossedly a reward, but having just one animated scene per creature is so repetitive that i find miself skipping it quite often, having a variety of scenes for every monster is more rewarding than one animation but, again, this is my personal appreciation.

2. To me it's not NTR at all as there are no romantic feelings involved between you and a monster but a lot of people can and will percieve it as NTR because someone other than them is having sex and according to them that counts as NTR despite of being just voyeurism. but to be honest I don't think that kind of people is the main public for a Breeding Game, Breeding Games are usually set in debauched worlds where everyone fools around with the monsters with no negative consequences and to me that's the main appeal of the "Genre", the depravity of the world and voyeuristic content and the fact that Breeding Season was the biggest game on patreon despite of having LI getting railed by the creatures and other NPCs is the proof of that, and the Breeding Farm mess because they listened too much the vanilla complainers is further proof. Anyway if you want to add love interests and make those love interest part of scenes with monsters (sharing scenes, voyeur scenes, breeding scenes, etc.) make it avoidable and/or optional because some players like to have an harem and other players don't mind NTR but like to have an especific character all for themselves.

3. Futanari is normally added as an extra fetish that adds variety to the game and also because a few players prefer to watch a futa and a female having sex that a male that is not them and a female (I don't get why that is different from having a male but ok), it doesn't serve any other purpose than that. A lot of games also add lesbic scenes despite of being useless for breeding because it adds variety and adds usefulness by adding an experience and level system, making those less "worthless" gameplay-wise.

4. I guess the offspring thing is because Patreon rules, the way to deal with it is by blocking their parents from having sexual intercourses with them. And about the possible NTR if you let them mate with other males, as I said before i don't think that Breeding games aren't for people who dislike NTR, or percieve Voyeurism as NTR but if you want to make possible for some players to avoid any external dick the option of selling the offsprings for a nice amount of money or donating them is always there.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that. I saw that those were pretty much one off animations, or a couple anyway.
I'm used to making visual novels, so I go pretty in depth with description and dialogue during sex scenes, and I was wondering if that was incompatible with the breeding genre.

In most of the breeding games I've played futa characters were still able to get pregnant. IMHO that's useful as you now have a character who can pass on their stats with a partner of either gender. Not to mention that in e.g. Breeders of the Nephelym not all species even have male variants.
That said, I found it annoying in BotN how abundant futa monsters are if they're enabled. From a gameplay perspective they're inherently better than either a male or a female monster and thus they should be much rarer.

2. Is it NTR?
3. What is the purpose of Futa?
4. What to do with the "offspring"?
1. Very important because those games rarely have other types of content. You can of course change that. That said, the nature of the core loop discourages it. If you have 5 species, you have 45+ combinations, so you invest a lot in art, so you're incentivised to emphasize the breeding loop, so all that art is shown to the player. This square of animations is like a black hole, sucking everything into it.
2. You said it, it isn't; plus those games are often made with a breedable fem protag in mind.
3. Besides simply being fetish fuel? If the genetics system is properly implemented (a huuuuuge IF) futas are a unique bridge from chromosomal Eve to chromosomal Adam that can be very useful.
4. Boil them, mash them, stick them in a stew. There are two ways a breeding game economy can work: a farming sim
where you sell dairy products and sell some exceptional specimens to patrons, or a strategy where you throw those grunts to the frontlines. Ultimately, most offspring are disposable by design with only a small portion of each generation becoming prized breeders.

sorry am late.

1. seems both important, animations and a story to tag along imo, else it's just management. you want something to look at, right? if it's animated, devs have less to wory about sophisticated text during the actual breeding, it's probly that. japanese novels tend to have .. lessay it won't count as actual conversation or the likes in my view, re-used lines of Ahhh! and Ooohhh! etc. for most of the scenes.
the big issue i see is, with the increasing amount of different species devs seem to add rather quick, you have a much too steep increase of combinations to add; exponential increase or work. was one of the basic problems in BS when followers kept asking for more new monsters while the existing weren't even handled.
2. NTR or not, well, one would be straight on definitions for each single game.. i'd say the breeding aspect should be the foreground. so what's the purpose of it? offspring, i'd say, which might not work for all of the ingame creatures without non-MC involvement. sure, there could be variants where MC does it all and creates some harem.. which wouldn't work in some games because some species initially come as male or female only, also to pass on traits or stats, some others than MC have to be combined.
that makes me to first process this,
4. offspring. easy answer; it's a breeding game?
then it is, in some form or other, about creating offspring.(a decent breeding game should have considered in the storyline, what the offspring is wanted for)
if it's not, it's maybe a mating game but not a breeding game. this acutally also includes incest, to some degree: look at real life, there won't be all these sorts of different cats, dogs, horses whatever animal you look at, without what they call crossbreeding.. incest, actually it is, because if the damn fashion dictates a certain shape of ears on this one dog type, and there's only one dog that has it.. no other way. new traits or abilities are, by nature of being new, unique to that species, which leads to breeders chancing to breed offspring which comes with this inherited new trait.
the funny thing there, because in breeding games usually the MC doesn't come with traits (in the games mentioned), MCs breeding their own offsprings would see no benefit for the game really.. aside from creating Gremlins in Breeding Season, which are reeeally cute lil buggers, but that's as well the effect of any prolongued crossbreeding in there.
now
3. Futa, well that seems to have a lobby of people asking the same thing, in whatever breeding game makes appearance, along with whatwasit, Neoteny (juvenile/childlike appearance of a grown being), keeps getting asked for, sometimes i think it's the same 100 people asking in every single of the respective game threads. i do get Genderbent may be needed if a game comes with any single-gender species. it's kinks, and unless it's not needed for the actual games' story, not mandatorily needed aside from the whatif and or exotic kick someplayers get out of it.

now i've finished my ice cream, gotta stop creating more walloftxt :D

now i've finished my ice cream, gotta stop creating more walloftxt :D
Thanks for the really useful and detailed feedback, I really appreciate it. I'd say animation is the biggest obstacle for me right now.
