This is the development thread for Gateborn, a dark fantasy NSFW game in a futuristic world.
I made this thread to gather suggestions, ideas, and feedback as I continue development.

OVERVIEW

Gateborn is a dark, text-based HTML game set in a futuristic world where humanity has adapted to the emergence of mystical Gates—dimensional rifts leading to unknown, dangerous realms. The protagonist, a young woman with a weak Awakening, struggles to survive in this brutal world, where power determines fate.
What starts as a simple mission inside a D-Rank Gate quickly turns into a nightmare when the entrance seals shut—a Red Gate has formed. Trapped with a team of more experienced Awakened, she soon realizes that none of them will make it out alive.
But she does.
With a new power lurking within her and the weight of a massacre on her shoulders, the protagonist must navigate a world where secrets, conspiracies, and predatory figures lurk around every corner.
The game features mature themes, explicit content, turn-based combat, and choice-driven progression. Your decisions will shape not only the protagonist’s survival but also who she becomes.

STORY

Humanity has lived under the shadow of Gates for decades—dimensional rifts that appear without warning, unleashing horrors from beyond. Some lucky few awaken supernatural abilities, allowing them to enter these Gates, hunt monsters, and carve out a living.
The protagonist is one such Awakened—except she is weak, barely above the lowest class. Unable to fight, she works as a Porter, scavenging mana cores from fallen creatures while real hunters do the killing.
Then, the Red Gate incident happens. Trapped. Hunted. Forced to witness the massacre of her entire raid team.
But something changes.
She awakens once more. Not like before. Different. Hungry.
And when she finally emerges from the Gate, alone, questions follow.
How did she survive?
Why does she feel different?
And why is she being watched?

In a world where strength is law, and the strong prey on the weak, she must learn to harness her newfound power, navigate dangerous alliances, and uncover the truth behind her second Awakening. Will she become a predator? Or will she be consumed?

GAMEPLAY

  • Choice-driven Narrative: Every decision shapes the protagonist’s personality, relationships, and fate.
  • Turn-based: Turn-based battles with a focus on skill selection and enemy exploitation.
  • Skill Absorption Mechanic: The protagonist’s unique ability allows her to steal skills—but there’s a limit.
  • Exploration & Missions: Different districts, underground dealings, and dungeon expeditions.
  • Reputation & Influence: Choices affect how factions, individuals, and society see her.

Minor changes:
Combat System Improvements
I've streamlined the combat system to reduce unnecessary clicks and speed up battles. Now, both the player's attack and the enemy's counterattack happen in the same phase, eliminating the need for a separate enemy turn.


NPC Generation & Future Guild System
Work has begun on a procedural NPC generation system, which will lay the foundation for potential guild mechanics. Players will encounter NPCs across different regions, each with distinct traits based on their environment. For example, in the slums, you're more likely to meet thugs, vagrants while the business district may introduce more corporate figures and brokers.
Some scenes with npc will be different basing on npc traits
