Others How does the "watch thread" work?

I only get a notification when someone posts to a thread or writes a review on a game.
Is it possible to receive notifications only when "watched" game updates? Just when a new version of the game is released. That's basically what I'm looking for. Maybe the “watch thread” isn't designed for that, but is there a function for what I'm looking for?

watching threads is a vanilla forum feature facilitating discussion.
there's no vanilla way to be notified of post edits
game updates are edits of the first post (more specifically, somebody adding a bit of text that's links to the new update; an edit can be anything else, including fixing dead download links, adding a screenshot, correcting a typo, changing dev's website link, etc.)
latest updates is custom code and iirc games appearing there is manually pushed by uploaders (with limitations on what types of updates count and how often it's allowed to happen)
