• NetoraRE - The male protagonist doesn't want to be cucked. In fact, it's very common that he doesn't even know the female protag is going through a corruption arc for most of the game.
• NetoraSE - Essentially cuckoldry fetish. The male protagonist wants to be cucked, and there is often mutual understanding of this with the female protagonist. Thus, there is no cheating in most cases.

Exceptions exist and there is some fluidity between the two, but let's keep it simple. The male MC wants to get cucked vs he doesn't.

My assumption was that someone who is a fan of netorase, rather than netorare, would be much more inclined to be self-inserting. But it's more of a 50/50 on the netorase side so far. Several different informational connotations of the word "cuck":

Thus, for netorare enjoyers, there must be another avenue of interest (corruption of female), and the self-inserters makes up the masochistic minority.

For netorase, it is a story about consensual cuckoldry/sharing, and perhaps even swinging/hotwifing and all that jazz. The bottom line is, the MCs in those are not being screwed over, at least on wholesome netorase stuff. So a person self-inserting into such an MC isn't necessarily masochistic or humiliation seeking. They could simply be a IRL swinger/sharing/hotwifing enjoyer. And even for the people that do enjoy it due to the beta cuck MC scenario, it is still with MC's own desires that he gets cucked. Basically, these scenarios, regardless of the cuck factor or not, seems like it would be more ripe for a self-inserting NTR fan.

As for netorase I always avoided it since I thought is was humiliating the (oft male) protagonist which I'm not into. As long as I have a choice in the game I might like storylines where the partners are equal (like with swinging) or where the protagonist is the dominant one.

Personally, I think how you worded the poll to be fantastic. It narrowed down the control group, so there's less confounders. If it was general self-insertion, it'd be too broad to be of any use.

Yeah, the POLL choices taken as is would likely answer the question of "What percent of NTR and NTS fans are in it for the self-insert masochistic/humiliation/cuckoldry aspect of the genre?"

I guess I wanted to decouple the self-insert and cuckoldry aspect and just figure out who is self-inserting, but that answers a slightly different question.

Eh, it's not a precise science anyways. The poll will give some insight on both inqueries, just not as accurately because of the potential confusion. We can clearly see that many more NTS fans self-insert than NTR fans. A subset of the self-inserting NTS group would do it for the beta cuckoldry appeal, rather than other forms of alpha/wholesome sharing.

That does not describe me at all. I tolerate the corruption but I'm here for the cheating. I don't want a "total downfall into depravity." If the phrase "meat toilet" is ever relevant, let alone used, I'm drier than the sahara. I also prefer stories where the men cheat on their sweet and loving wives with much sexier girls (but conversely, I cannot stand harem games)

I wouldn't say I self-insert, but I do relate to tend to relate to the female characters a lot more, being a woman myself. Of course, the vast majority of porn games feature wildly unrealistic depictions of women who sound like they were written by people whose primary exposure to women is other porn games, so there's a limit to how much I relate to them.
