About the Game




"Where is Love?" is a choice-driven dark comedy visual novel that questions notions of family. Love isn't a gentle breeze or a warm hug - it's a violent manipulation game, challenging your sense of right and wrong. There are no butterflies in your stomach, only the harsh reality of cocaine's sting in your nostrils and the acrid aftertaste of vodka.

Inspired by Scarlet Hollow and Class of ‘09, but with themes that explore unhealthy relationships and family dynamics. The game has no common route, and is intended to be replayed to learn the full story.

Two months ago, you fled the suffocating confines of home with Lily, your adopted sister.
She's got a talent for leading you down the rabbit hole of booze and drugs, and you can't resist the pull.



Zoey, unlike Lily, wasn't discarded by their parents like yesterday's trash. Behind that angelic smile lurks a mischievous smirk...
No one knows what drives her, but whenever she shows up, the world goes straight to hell.



Sarah, your flesh and blood, is a pranking light in the darkness, pleading with you to live together in the safety of your home.
Once a strong and independent older sister, a violent incident involving your father left her emotionally shattered.

When Lily strong-armed you into leaving home, you never anticipated the lives that would be caught in the crossfire of your delinquency.
Is there a way to keep everyone satisfied, or will everything inevitably go to shit, as it always seems to do?

I like dark games, but its a fine line between entertaining hardcore dark story and cringe inducing edgelord story.

Sandboxes can be good (i.e. choices and different paths are more immersive) but often sandbox games end up mostly empty and the players are asking themselves where to go next and why the dev chose to implement a sandbox at all.
And the most important thing about sandbox games: don't let your game become a grindfest, nobody wants to grind in an avn.

I wont name any fetishes i want to see. Everyone wants to see different things, you wont be able to please everyone anyways. Your ideas sound pretty good and fairly unique. Start with what you have and dont overcommit at the beginning. There will be new ideas while you work on your game.
With extreme stories you wont have a big audience to begin with so dont restrict yourself to the wishes of the audience and just write what you want to write. Let your imagination run wild champ.
If your games quality is good enough you will find an audience. There arent many really dark games right now so you have a pretty good chance that people will find you.

I think I'll stick to developing SFW games under my real name, after running some research, it doesn't seem like there is a fit between what I'm aiming to create and what forum users like, albeit, it's likely fairly high-level. I did a couple of small games in the past, and even those tend to pay okay - this would be an attempt to go next level.

The idea was to do sort of a Class of 09 - the adult version, but I think the lower reach of publishing a game as an adult isn't that much balanced with a more proactive audience that wants to see more games in a limited pool.

Rather, the pool isn't limited, there're shitload of games, but we all know how few are good

You know what, fuck it, I'm gonna make a demo, will share it on F95, and if I get reviews that are good enough will pursue it further.

It looks like the games here are mostly funded through Patreon? I am more used to raising the money from private publisher or government before starting, looks to be more of a crowdfunding model

Unfortunately, there are very few male domination games. Your game looks like "Regional manager", only in an university setting, it can be interesting, but of course it all depends on the quality.

The stuff in the first post is no longer relevant, it was mostly a brainstorm, I changed up the story / setting.

I will just delete the info so people don't get confused - I am pretty happy with how things are shaping up.

I checked the Regional Manager and it's fairly different from what I am working on.

If you are wondering - why Subscribestar? Patreon banned Zetan (Desert Stalker), so I can't trust them to build something long-term...

Some of the main cast, around whom the story is built (left to right):

1. Sarah - your blood-related sister, wants you and Lily to live an honest life.
2. Mike - you (protagonist). Always going with the flow, no matter how ridiculous.
3. Lily - your adopted sister. Violent, possessive, reason why you escaped home.
4. Zoey - Lily's real sister, who hasn't been abandoned by her parents.

This isn't some simple incest story...

I am getting feedback that it's unclear what the game is about and that the renders are too dark.

I agree with both - will be improving.

Rather than a long linear game, the game is more of a Class of 09 shitload of routes and outcomes over a shorter period of time.

And the only reason why the game might feel shorter is because there are a lot of variations and unique routes that you can only experience if you replay the game with different choices.

I have troubles communicating it.

I think Yandere as a word implies that a character is easily capable of murder, which isn't the case, but personality-trait wise pretty close.

I'm still defining stuff and seeing how far to take it. Since it's an adult game, I don't want to take it insanely dark, but there will definitely fucked up routes.

I will be slowly rolling out stuff to test it and hopefully get feedback here. This adult game dev thing is pretty new to me so I am getting my bearings, I'm originally from non sexy RPG industry, and a bit of AR/VR games.

It's pretty fun, I like it, as long as the hate mail won't start...

I swear, if this game ever goes somewhere, the first thing I will do is hire a lighting person and never be bothered with this again, holy crap.

Adjust the light -> render the scene -> see something bad -> repeat.

Then you think - oh, that looks great. Export it, run the image through Photoshop, then compress it because you don't want a 3MB image in your game.

And then it looks like crap again.

Repeat!

Despite that, I have to say, it's more fun that sitting in Unity for hours trying to figure out why a prefab suddenly stopped loading or why an object suddenly stopped recognizing some code block. I can see why people get into it, not bad.

I also learned that I can release a non-adult version of this game on Steam, which definitely improves my motivation.

Hey everyone! These development updates are here to give you a deeper look at what I'm working on beyond our regular weekly updates.

Super grateful to 8 people who followed the Subscribestar page despite it being pretty new! Hope to keep growing! I will also be doing some revamps of the overview pages about the game - since it was communicated to me that it isn't clear what the game focuses on exactly.

NSFW Peek - My First Animation (that doesn't suck, probably)

Developed my first animation after a lot of attempts and practice... The quality is slightly shitty because of the gif compression, but I am pretty happy overall.

Takes about 14 hours of rendering for 5 seconds, which is fine.

Had to render it three times because I was practicing different lighting and angles, so about 50 hours overall. But I use a separate instance of Daz, so I tend to do other work in parallel.

Maybe I can mess around a bit more with the lens zooming in. That's only one of the angles.

Can you guys recommend me some games where you would say that the scenes are amazing? Just so I can take a look at good examples.

Sup - I got sick pretty bad due to your classical real job stress (I sincerely hate working with clients), so I've just been writing the story and focusing on making more animations not to waste the rendering time.

Might take me a while to recover, but game dev proceeds well. At the very least, I'm pretty happy with the first two minutes of the game. I'm like - damn - can I make the entire game like those first two minutes.

I've also been trying to balance out adult content vs. story content, since the game should also be published as SFW for there to be any chance of financial viability, and I'm still trying to strike the balance.

Lol, love the branding. The camera movements are good, useful stuff for learning. Smaller scope seems to work well for them.


Coming into this from "family friendly games" that I used to make is a pretty funny switch. Way easier to make money tho in that sphere, public bodies love funding it xD
