Introduction
Hello good people of F95Zone, I am happy to introduce myself. My name is Wizard Hat Studios, and I am working on my first game. I have zero experience in making games, so this will be a big learning experience for me. I am confident that I will learn a lot during this process, and hope to bring you a great hentai experience.

Game #1: Harry Potter parody
Being a big fan of the Harry Potter franchise, this was a simple choice for me. Due to my inexperience writing for games or other media, I decided a Harry Potter parody game is a safe way to gain experience with writing, since I know the franchise and its already defined universe. There are many good Harry Potter games on this website, and I hope to make my own game 1/10 as good as the others.

Every character in the game is 18+.

Premise
The main character will be someone who attended Hogwarts before, and during the Wizarding War. After You Know Who was defeated, Hogwarts starts a program knows as the Advanced Curriculum. This means that people who graduated earlier, can follow classes to learn advanced subjects. These classes are only available for students older than 18.

Style
I want to create a laidback and chill game with a relaxing atmosphere and add a bit of humor here and there. There will be gameplay elements to progress the story, but I don't want to make them too grindy: I respect your time. If I waste it, I would feel bad. However, if I manage to make you happy, it was worth the time and effort.

Art
I commission an artist whose style is semi-realistic. The reason behind this is that I do not like to use AI for things beside quick prototyping or referencing, and an anime style will not fit the setting of the game. And thus I chose for this artist, who's already making art as we speak (well, as I type).

Characters
Main character
The main character will be a positive, happy and relaxed dude. He is very loyal, hardworking, and smart. Due to this, many people like you. You like women, their tits, and their asses, so you worked out during the summer.

Hermione
Not many people seem to remember (or care about) Hermione's birthday. However, you do. You buy her a great gift she enjoys, and even decide to spend the day with her. This starts your relationship with her, and the two of you might become close if you treat her well.

Luna
She wants to find a creature you're not sure if it exists. In the Forbidden Forest not only will you encounter dangerous flora and fauna, but also the beauty they have to offer. Get to know Luna, and you might discover there's much you can learn from her.

Closing note
That's it for now, I hope you liked my introduction. While it might be lengthy and conform any standards (I read this post, and it's messy, I will probably rewrite this opening post 69 times), I hope this sparks your interest and you have feedback/tips/some love for me. I am sure that as I progress through developing this game, I will become better at this. Have a good one, my friends!

(If you have any questions, please let me know. I am happy to answer them. Otherwise, it feels as if I'm talking to myself, which actually isn't a bad thing.)

Welcome to The F95zone. ;)

The game sounds interesting, and your enthusiasm comes through.
Your intro was very clearly stated.

Question: Are you set on using "other" game engine?

Cheers

Hey Saint Blackmoor,

Thank you very much for your reply! I am happy that my enthusiastic message came through, awesome. Also nice that my intro was clear, I thought it was messy. And yes, I am looking into Godot, since I want to make a few minigames. I am still in experimenting mode to see what will work for the game. The aim is to bring out a tech demo, and see what people think, gather feedback and improve.

I have tried RenPy, and it's awesome for visual novels, but less so for the mechanics I envision. But of course, I am open to know what you think. I think the biggest downside will be having no rollback/skip for dialogue from the start, but I will see if it can be added. The biggest reason I chose Godot, is because I already made a very small game with it, so I am familiar with the GDScript syntax.

Hey.
That sounds like valid logic.
The experience you will gain here from interacting with members is a big part of the AVN environment.
Not having a well thought out plan has doomed many devs here. Research and planning are king. ;)

Yes, I think we all develop a comfortable system when playing games. I'm partial to renpy, like many. I always turn all the sounds off, get rid of the textbox, never go full screen, and use the rollback function a lot. It's just what is comfortable to me. I think from being an avid book reader back when books were being read. :ROFLMAO:

But, IMO, Gabot is a good engine.

I think that's the biggest reason why this interests me, to learn, to have people provide feedback, and in the best case scenario make a game that people will like playing.

Yes, I also have my preferences when I play games. For example, I tend to skip RPGM games, because a lot of them have useless fetch quests, and I do not have the time to go back and forth between a huge map to unlock scenes. And of course there are RPGM games that are much better designed, having mechanics in place that add to the game experience and reward the player for their time investment. I want to do the same, reward the player for playing my game.

Another reason why I like Godot is that it's quite lightweight, unlike Unity. On the flip side, Unity has a lot more documentation and plugins you can use. Still, Godot is my own personal favorite. But of course, opinions vary (and that's good thing).

Yeah, I feel the same about RPGM. I don't think I've ever finished one.
Some RPGM have been ported to renpy and they usually do well.
How long is the game going to be?

For now, it will just be a demo with a few scenes per love interest. When people like it, I will add more scenes and eventually a Patreon to see if I can get any financial support.

But for now it's more important to have a solid foundation in the form of a working game framework.

A day may come when an HP parody project will offer Hermione with just a normal-sized, cute breasts instead of an udder.
But it is not this day.

Hey! I work with Unity and Twine. I think rollback is possible on Godot but you'd have to do it manually.
If you open up a Twine save file using a save editor, you'll see that it's recording every passage and its variables into the save file. If you haven't worked with Twine before, a passage is basically a scene in Godot.

The way I would do it is every time a scene loads or when I click the screen to load the next dialog, I'll write what scene it is and the values of all the variables into a text file. If the player hits the rollback button, I'll just read the latest entry from the text file, load what scene it recorded, reassign all the variables then delete the record. You can even check if you've seen the text already. You'd just have to check if your text file contains the dialog. Now you can apply the skip function too. If you do it this way, you can even recreate the near unlimited save slots Ren'py has haha

Regardless, if you really want to add that feature, you should figure out how you wanna do it now. It would be a nightmare to add that big of a function into an already working code. Good luck, dude!
