I wonder why the previews always look so creepy tho with all that weird lighting and shading?
Kind of answered yourself there... It's a raw state without all the lighting/shading effects/filters.
It's a viewport render to check poses for the most part. It is quick to do and gives you a good idea if you have the poses right, but nothing else.
