god i hope future updates are true
The problem with this game is that the game developer has no experience in game development. He spent a lot of time on work that will have to be redone.
Instead of making a basic prototype of the game and only after that do the graphics. He spent a lot of time on graphics and the most unnecessary feature in a single-player game - character appearance customization.
And on top of that, he ended up with optimization problems. Because he created a heavy protagonist and did not realize that the game will have to make at least two dozen other similar characters.
The game should give at least 30 FPS on RTX cards of the twentieth series at full level where different kinds of objects are used, including NPCs with animations and body physics loaded. And these NPС should be at least 10 in the field of view.
I'm sure the developer used textures around 4096 and a heavy character mesh, instead of optimizing for a low body mesh and a maximum texture of 1024 for the whole body.
As I said before, the developer started from a completely different direction and instead of making a game he ended up with a walking simulator. As a result, he encountered a problem with the game's optimization and now it will be easier for him to make the game again than to try to fix something...

I wrote about the problems and uselessness of ONLY lumens and RTX based lighting back when the first version came out. But the author said "that's how I see it" and continued trying to use "modern technology" instead of doing everything the classic way. The result is not surprising.

Where is your game? I would love to check it out.

I'm not going to argue with you on graphics and optimization, the game could certainly use some of the later, and the former is probably overkill. I can play a reasonable framerate, but that's on a fucking 7900 XT at 1080p. You shouldn't need that for standard HD gaming.

What I do have a bit of an issue with though, is the claim that character appearance customization is an "unnecessary feature in a single-player game". That's the whole reason I'm following the game; I love character customization. The game could use work, but it fills a niche.

Appearance customization can be used as an option, but not during the prototyping phase (which is where the game is currently at). Appearance customization should be used at the very end of development. Because there will be a lot of changes during the development process and most likely many things will have to be redone or replaced.

That's fair, and I completely agree with you. Your initial claim just struck me as unfairly hostile towards a feature I am quite fond of. Peace!

Considering how detailed the character creation is I'd imagine it has gone through several revisions as well as the developer learns how to better save and load various variables associated with character design and appearance. It is definitely not a useless feature, there are so many gaming communities that only really play certain games because of endless character customization.

Final Fantasy 14, Cyberpunk 2077,Baldur's Gate 3, Skyrim... all of these games have whole discords dedicated to people just playing photo mode and barely touching the base game anymore.

I suppose you could compare character customization to salt or spice. Can't really eat either on its own but the food will taste too bland without them.

Yes. I agree. But not in this particular case with this game. The author has no experience in making games. Which is actually noticeable because of the death of the project.
The games you listed were made by teams of dozens of specialists who knew what to do and how to do it.
And speaking of “spices,” there must first be a “dish” to which those very spices are applied.

Funny you say it's the death of the project as if you know the dev has stopped working on it. Everyone who's made a game has started with no knowledge of making a game, it's part of the process of learning how to make one.

You can't expect him to drop everything to develop a game that doesn't fund his living. It just isn't realistic.

Honestly, the dev probably just used this game as a way to practice/learn how to develop in Unreal Engine to get a job for a real game studio, which he now probably got and that's why this game is basically dormant.

Fair enough, suppose I don't disagree. The first post I quoted came off a little aggressive but I can see where you're coming from.
