There's a whole discussion on the developer forum about how players have been getting harsher with reviews.
I understand that players are becoming more demanding as more and more games are released and there's less new stuff to see. But I don't think anyone should judge anything badly just because they don't like it. Like your music example, we have so many others we could give.
I usually think of it this way: Imagine you are in a food court with countless restaurants of all types. If you decide to eat steak but you don't like steak, you can't blame the chef.
To be honest, my game isn't severely affected by this. More controversial genres like NTR suffer much more from this type of reaction from players.
We often see things like: "NTR bullshit. Take 1 star."
But then the question arises: Why the hell did you play an NTR game if you knew about its content and that it is something you clearly don't like?
Some people are weird.
