I think a lot of it was facade. She wanted to be part of the nerds but she obviously isn't smart enough for that and Magnar and Co. apparently cut her loose and don't help her with college anymore.

There is an earlier conversation with her during the dorm party that seems to indicate, that there is "trouble in paradise" between her and Magnar already.

Yes, it seems like she wants to be part of the nerds, so she's ready to do anything. Sounds like... psychopathy.
