Vivianne, Atugia, Anigmatra, Quin, Azzy
Maybe a small recruitment quest, but that's it.

We don't need more throwaway companions.

I think he ment as replacements, which has a lot of potential if you think about it; Garret/Shar/Erika/Ahmri will have that the "fish out of water" trope to them while being on different spectrums of the morality scale and backgrounds to give differing opinions and might even but heads on scenarios.
Laiden and Lusina are indoctrinated and jade (respectively) enough that they'll have strong opinions on how things go or went down.
If I had to pick the for the cumvengers then it'd be Cait (because as much as I think she's boring she's the team mascot), Brint/Brienne, Ryn (because plot n Stockholm syndrome has made me like her), Byvernia to replace Arona and Quinn, Berwyn to replace Vivienne, Eryka to replaces Autgia, Garret cause he's the goat, Shar replaces Agnimitra (Shar is far more interesting and that's a shame, you will never hear me praise B, how do you manage to make the immortal nympho bard boring?) And honestly do we really need Azzy as a companion? I like her but she feels so irrelevant

I'm not going to lie, the second that tobs scene transitioned from a regular scene into a Tobs sex scene I too pulled a mass effect

As a result the specificities of how Tobs managed to cock this one up was lost to me beyond obvious errors.

I enjoy playing this, but it's never ending. The main quest needs to be pushed forward, meaningless side stories are diluting the game. Finish this thing and then add DLCs later. This has become a cash grab, with no end in sight.

Ninja fox doesn't have enough companion energy imo, she's cool but ain't enough meat to her. Berwyn's plot was butchered, I can see his master running freelance development for Tollus in order to get resources she need to play with her Mcguffin and the moments we meet Tollus we see her then that can then branch off into a side plot after the main segment of the quest is finished.
But like u said the Lead has to care about things like interconnectedness and story.

Eh, in my ideal version, she'd have more to her (specially interacting with other characters, maybe get Kiyoko up to date for one, be caught teaching ninja shit to Kinu) once you got her as a companion.

Likewise, I'd be fine with the idea of the PC defeating a possessed Berwyn and his master, then letting them join in from that ethereal temple and whatnot but you can only get one of the two at a time. That way you could send Vivianne to the Wayfort to run a shop/do experiments and be this game's equivalent to the man, the myth, the legend Rathazul.

Shar does have that curiosity/innocent factor that compels you to take her on a quest, she's the kind of character that by not fitting in her bird people society would fit with you as the mutated champion, unlike Agni who doesn't really have anything to add beyond telling you about the cool stuff she saw before and for whom you're just another silly quest. We already have one old inmortal in our party and she barely does anything

One is impactful and full of possibilities, the other isn't, and they don't even try to fix that

First thing that happens in that cave is that we find some elf girl who has been raped non stop all this time, we never see her again. I don't understand why the creator hates mod support. I'd argue mods can help add to the game and help improve its longevity, as they can add features to the existing game, cut or otherwise, or overhaul the game to be a completely new experience. Look at Doom and Half-Life for example.

There are some post about it and you can find more on the steam page, but the main reason seems to be that because the first game had a bunch of mods with questionable stuff, some people got the idea that the devs were into those same fetishes. Thing is, the whole team is pretty... Let's say inconsistent with their material and the quality of it, easy to anger when questioned and quite sensitive to the point of picking personal vendettas against players

There's a quest about it because a guy dared to dream with a cat girl harem, and they couldn't stand that

So having the power to mod stuff is both an insult to their vision, that changes constantly, and to what they want to do with this game, which is to have the player being lame

Honestly, if their main argument was something like, not wanting people to associate certain mods to them because there's always the danger of having some youtuber putting a three hour documental, or a no life trending chaser bug person on X or bluesky with a bot farm and unresolved issues had them on aim, then yeah, I would understand not wanting people to mod the game because of a negative reaction, but more proposed mods here are about changing some interactions, make them more tame, adding some npc as companions and things like that

So to finally answer your question, is ego, massive amounts of ego
