Man, time goes by so fast... In 3 days = 18.01.2022, it's going to be exactly 9 months since this thread and the game got updated. Basing myself on the update progress post above, we might have to wait one more month at the very least. Shit happens...

But I would definitely give up on this game if we are still in the " Foreplay Paradise " process.

Facepalm my comment, hate it if you want, but I said it once and I'll say it again : " DoD didn't need an ultimate or whatever edition ". It was already good the way it was IMHO.

I'd substitute it in exchange of 3 loaded Midnight P updates without hesitation.

it was needed, because the dev wanted to make more money  :KEK:
Indeed. More money + I'm pretty convinced he was out of ideas for the continuation or structure of MP story. Might be wrong here, but that's the feeling I got. He probably was out of ideas, creativity and was burn-out inspiration-wise. He's human like all of us after all. Again, I might be wrong here. But let's suppose it's the case, he should just have taken a break like many Devs did and pause payments until things went back to normal.

Seek inspiration and come back. I would have preferred this scenario to the " unwanted ultimate DoD edition ".

That's probably why he was so focused on the whole phone thing, and it's not even going to be ready for the new update. It might have bought him some time to think of story-related stuff, but if it's the case, I don't think it was much.

I never finished DoD...up till update 8 the MC had only sex one time with the aunt. THen update 8 pops up and we bang literally every character in the game because reasons not needed.
Then it hit me. I had no idea what the hell story wise the seven first chapters were about...
Third time i came back to DoD...couldn't do it. The sex scenes felt forced and pointless. The MC was just floating about...

One week passed since last post and no updtades on Patreon, yet. When in the beginning of december I was saying we wouldn't have had MP 0.15 before the end of jan, I was probably too optimistic.

MP Development Update #42
Hey everyone

Another quick weekly update.
Last week we've been setting up a few technical things with the new crew and that's done so I've gone into a bit of a lone wolf mode to finish up things before the release of 0.15
This week I'm finalizing scenes and writing. It's going good so far and I'm looking forward to the upcoming release. I can see the finish line. To speed up the process a bit further I might get a little help with the writing as well.
I'm sitting here thinking about what to include in this post about the upcoming update, but I can't really say stuff that hasn't been said already. So I guess I'll talk about something different.
Back in the day when Midnight Paradise was still just an idea it was supposed to be a lot different from what it is today. And that bothered me for a long while.
The reason it's the way it is today is because, well, most things don't go as planned and I had to make decisions that would "put out the fires" short term but compromised on long term vision. This mainly happened during the time of the initial disaster of 0.1 - 0.3
After that I wanted to get back to the roots as close as possible, because that was the comfortable place to be, that was home turf. And while render quality increased drastically compared to Dreams of Desire, the game didn't evolve as much as I wanted it to.
My main issue is that it's not utilizing the sandbox element enough. I don't play much games nowadays aside from a select few, but what I always liked about games was the little exploration of unlocking new locations, checking on characters and see if there's anything new to do with them, checking back periodically as the main story moved forward. And when there was something new unlocked and I discovered it, it felt great. I think this is what's missing from MP. I'm not talking about anything grindy here, where you have to raise stats by mindless clicking for 20 minutes to unlock a new scene.
It would be cool to have smaller scenes scattered throughout the game that can be reached by free interaction with the characters. Do you guys think that would be good too, or is it just me?
Well, that is something a lot more closer to my initial vision of MP. Making things a bit more interactive and fun.
This is a type of content I think the game could greatly benefit from and it's also a type of content I personally want to make too, so this is a direction I'll be heading towards in the future. Just to be clear, this won't stand in the way of the normal scenes I've been making so far, just an addition.
I hope you didn't mind my little rambling about this. Well, that's it from me for now. Talk to you guys soon!
And as always, thank you for your great support!

Man is talking about utilising the sandbox feature more by bringing "new things" to the game, when he can't even utilise the things that are already in the game. It's also funny how he is all the time talking about these side things instead of the game itself. Wether it's the phone on the game or sandbox feature, like anyone would actually care about those things at this point of the game.

Also why is he still ”writing” and finalizing scenes, if everything was supposed to be ready for November/December release already? The delay was supposed to be Lain’s fault as he stated himself, yet now it's proved that the real reason for the delay was actually him not doing his job. January 4th he said he will work on 0.16 content while he waits for the ”coder situation” to clear out, yet he didn’t even have things ready for 0.15…

This was his staff members answer in Discord when someone asked about the coding:

"Well, the complexity of the code goes hand in hand with how complex things you're trying to achieve. Simple talking scene with progression of images is not difficult (imagine booty calls). Things like having the UI at the top of your screen with buttons triggering certain things (phone, map, skip time) that is more complex of course, because you need to set up the button and also the thing that is going be triggered by it. Then you need to code when will those things be available and when not (Skipping time is not available in every location, for example).

Time itself is not exactly easy either, because you need to have every location react to that system (day/night location) and also the map needs to react to it (show nightclub location only at night, for example).

Then there are things like those phone hints, those are not difficult in terms of code, but they require a lot of focus. They all work based on certain "points" and "flags" in the main story, and if you accidently type in the wrong point, then the hint will show during incorrect stage of the game.

And a whole different story is creating new features (for example improved phone system), there you not only need to make sure it works in itself as intended, but that is also works with all the other already implemented systems.

So, overall it's a combination of many things. And it all requires you to be aware of what else needs to be changed/added if you introduce something new into the game."
LOL he calling this complex? SureI can understand it could be challenging todo it himself if he is not a coder, but any bigginer or intermediate programmer could do everything he just mentioned. It's renpy he doesn't have any complex vertor math, queternians. Projections, physics etc. Most of what he mentioned us just if else checks with the script that his writer gives him. As for theclock. I wrote my own clock system in unity and it took me two days. Less than 200lines of code and one single script and is fully customizable and has override function such has skip time of day, skip day, week, season, year. It tracks times all the way from second to years and all on 12h clock! The point is everything he mention is simple stuff and doesn't require an "expert" programme. Anybody on fiver could do this lmao
