is it bad things if he switch to VXAce? or it because XP much harder to work with? i'm not familiar with RPG Maker.
Full disclosure, I'm not very familiar with the 'lore' behind this game's development (past that it's been years since a proper update).

You can make a good game on any of the RPG Maker versions, though the community tends to gravitate towards whichever version is the newest, since that will receive the most support. On that note, the shift to the newer VXAce is understandable, since VXAce allows for custom formulas, but if they were going to swap systems, I personally would have just gone to the newest version, MZ. The frustration of this really comes in because making such a huge decision as changing which program to run the game on means that on top of normal development time, everything that was already finished will now have to be ported over.

Again, if he was going to change, I think it would have been wiser to just modernize it into MZ (or at least MV), since that has the best support, is pretty user friendly, has quite a lot of community-made plugins and assets (even more if you combine the fact that you can pretty much use anything from MV in MZ, meaning that grandfathered plugins and assets are still usable).

As a quick side note, for people going into RPG Maker for the first time, or just casually, MV is a lot more affordable. Anyways.

I've met several dedicated advocates for the older programs, I've always thought the the newest MV/MZ is the way to go. Regardless, like I said, they can make a good game on really any of the provided programs. They just need to... you know... make it.

Yes. While RPG Maker VXAce and XP are very similar, VXAce changes a lot of things about how the program operates. They're both programmed in Ruby, but a lot has changed in-between the two systems.

They're both very similar, but the change in engines means he COMPLETELY changed the core engine. The gameplay has most likely changed a lot under the hood as a result unless he has a good coder that knows what they're doing.

1,000% agree.
MZ being a javascript engine means a lot more support than VXAce. VXAce also has fewer coders still active so you get less help.

Exactly.

It means the demo we've played basically would have to be made from the ground up again.

This is the image attached at the beginning of this discussion thread.
I believe Monster Girl Encyclopedia RPG was made in RPG Maker VXAced from the beginning. The icon in the upper left corner of the window is the RPG Maker VXAced icon.

He is very much still alive and active, let´s wait another 4 years <3
Joke aside, at least he tells us he is still on it and the project is not dead... so don´t burn him up yet please, he still is cooking... I don´t mind waiting, the more time he got the better the outcome will be <3
To elaborate on this, the JP text in the screenshot says:

Play Time
Last 2 weeks: 181 hours
Total: 3,916.5 hours

google says there are 168 hours in a week so that really is some major dedication.
What a man he is. Mere mortals can only work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for a total of 40 hours a week or 80 hours in 2 weeks... yet here Kenko the chad is, working more than double that time in two weeks. Even people with 2 full time jobs work less than him. Such dedication to his craft! At that pace, the game must surely be almost finished by now after 4 years!

Da fuck. He had a perfectly decent system in RPG Maker XP. Why'd they switch to VXAce?
Genuinely curious what's going on backdoors.
As far as I know, XP gets bloated as shit and runs terribly if you put too many high quality image assets into it. And if he's planning to have a decent amount of monster girls, each with multiple battle CGs per girl, at a decent resolution... yeah, upgrading was the way to go. I'm not sure why he upgraded only one tier, VXAce is also not super well optimized, and it's 14 years old to boot — I was messing around with VXAce in fucking middle school, that thing is so old. Resource links for it are dying out every day. But, who knows? My guess is that its version of Ruby was similar enough to XP that it's less difficult for him to get adjusted.

Apparently I was wrong anyway!
The first demo was made in VXAce. I just didn't realize because he was using XP assets.
