You can't merge Season 1 and Season 2 folders. They have different code.
The mod on the Mod thread is for Season 1. It got integrated into the base game (with changes in code) in Season 2.

It's that darned reading thing again, isn't it?

Imagine if the OP in that mod thread had info like this in it:
For v0.13 and later, you don't need this mod anymore.
