Status update and poorly-timed setback
Hey, I said I'd let you know when I've reached the next milestone (i.e. the next lewd scene) and I've done that. This lewd scene is stupid long and extensive, by the way, by my count 129 renders and 22 animations. That's a hell of a lot of work, but I hope it does a lot to make the moment not feel like a throwaway. There's a slight chance that such a long lewd scene might be overindulgent, but that's really only something I'll learn by putting it out there and getting feedback. I like to think it justifies its length.

Anyway, now for something cringe. Remember at the end of my last status update when I said I knew I'd forget to write about something, yeah. I forgot to mention that I took a little while doing commissioned animations for the game Companion of Darkness by Berkili4, and how that also dug into some development time.

Well, after doing that, Berkili4 has offered again to hire me, and I've repeatedly declined, citing that it's too time consuming and that Realm Invader needs my attention. Just over a week ago he hit me up again, this time emphasizing that he needs an animator as the other one he could rely on has health issues. I once again respectfully refused so I could work on my game, wishing Berkili4 luck in searching for another animator.

Well, he didn't find one. I'm not going to leak DMs, so you'll have to take my word for it, but the man is desperate and has pretty much exhausted all options, every animator he found either wasn't interested, or asked absurd prices.

The point I'm getting at here is that he was at his final straw and I took the offer. He largely increased how much he was willing to pay and it's clear the guy isn't trying to take advantage of me or anything. He wants 6 animations. 6, exactly. And I'm going to do them ASAP. I know this is really shitty timing after my last status update, but I want to emphasize that I'm only taking the job because he was out of options. 6 animations aren't many but a setback is a setback, and I'm sorry it's come to this in a direct contradiction of the declarations I made in my last update. As soon as the job is done I'm going straight back into Realm Invader.

- Gary
It has been a full year since his last update and he still seems to have taken time several times to do commissions for other devs when he doesn't even have a release date for his, I could understand maybe if he had just released his update but come on...

I see him getting burned before finishing his own game.

Honestly, Companion of Darkness guy should just work on his own fucking game. That game has only gotten worse with the commissioned animations. They just feel so out of place with the rest of the game. Let Gary make his own game.

You guys have never seen a truly abandoned game and it shows. Dev is literally constantly communicating and showing previews, it's been a long time but it's far from abandoned.
And saying every 2 months "burnout/depression " because the way of working on the game is clearly not ideal, it's just obvious. Being active doesn't mean anything.

How dare he be burnt out or have feelings. And showing and providing proof that you're working and making progress means nothing? It's a bad thing to have it take this long, you can criticize him for that, but calling it abandoned is definitely not right.

Nothing wrong with that, this isn't even a criticism of the dev. And I never said it was abandoned, but that it was heading that way, just the same pattern again and again.
Anyway, there's no point in debating further. I think the game is headed in the wrong direction, and you think the opposite. We're not going to change each other's minds.

I haven't finished it yet but episode 1 alone was pretty long i thought, and if the rest is going to be that size i expect that takes a long development time so i wouldn't say its abandoned until its actually officially confirmed. There are some games out there that take a year or some even two between updates so i would say this is nothing to worry about and as people have pointed out dev updates are still coming every now and then on how he's progressing.

Either way, im really enjoying this game so far, cool setting, some funny situations, likeable characters, good writing, just to name a few pros. Its a great game
