This entire discussion right now only proves what i've said a dozen pages ago, the issue with the game and it's story is that they try to treat the demons as a "they ain't so bad once you get to know them" story, while also painting them as remorseless killers that gladly suck you dry if they get the chance. resulting in Unintentional Unsympathetic Characters.
bargest? a literal lapdog that does as she is told to find and rape humans, suddenly turns into a lovely house-pet once befriended.
Lampas? acts like the "smarter henchman" compared to bargest, singleminded in their goal to turn you and herself into a lamp, until you befriend her and she acts like a cheeky girlfriend that loves romance comics. and i have to joke "sheesh where was your romance when you tried to turn me into a biological ikea Tableware?"
hell, even some of the more friendly ones like echo are mean to you, fall for her "healing bath" and before you know it she brainwashes you into staying with her.
the result is that it's all too easy to hate the demons and see no problem in killing them all, eye for an eye so to speak, and a bad case of being unintentional unsympathetic. don't get me wrong, i like the game, but it's easy for me to understand why so many gladly do the genocide run, the demons REALLY don't endear themselves to us UNTIL we recruit them and they show their friendly side.
let's look at lampas again, when the event starts to recruit her, we have been hounded by them the entire level, they corner us and still try to turn us into a damn lamp, until we struggle free and her boss decides to roast her some bit before firing her, and then we get the chance to save her or get the hell out of dodge.
what reason besides "having a gentle heart" would we have to spare someone who just tried taking our lives mere moments ago? hell, i nearly did a genocide run on accident because i didn't realize the first time playing that i'm NOT supposed to execute the demons if i wanna get the best ending.
