If it's for that reason yes, play and fall in love with the goddess! But don't paint the scenario as something necessary either. And unless it has changed at all, Ocean himself said that SG's plot is not altered by WIAB.
If you like easter eggs and discovering the threads of connection, fine. If you don't care about those things, it doesn't affect you at all.

It is not mandatory, you can experienced SG as its own thing. That said, I do think that playing both enriches them and elevates the stories.

This is mainly for RNasc4444, I was looking on discord because of the new Leia set of renders, and there was this little bit of a conversation - I've condensed out all the banter to just the relevant points:

I saw it too but still can not make sense of it. There is a route where you can fuck Maja, she will betray Vic, but still will not date you ? I find this so much worse.

I suspect there will be moments that things get out of control. It might be that Maja regrets and feels guilty afterwards and makes sure never to let anything happen again. We'll just have to see how it's implemented. There's a non zero chance that Maja could be a LI, just like there's a non zero chance for Ayua. Ocean did say there was a scene with Maja in the update. But Ocean's also adamant it's not a dating sim, so even in these cases, he's got a specific part of the story he'll tell by doing it.

More importantly, it shows that there is conflict planned via a cheating mechanism, that players have to take their choices seriously with the consequences.

I think that it was always clear that cheating was gonna be a part of the story. But in a different way than it is in WiaB. There cheating is central, here seems more like a spice to some paths.

Most likely, it's a side path, and you can ignore that content, just the same as you'd ignore content from other LI's to keep your preferred path safe or not. The proof is not in what Ocean says (as much as I want Maja LI content) but in what we play. We really have no benchmark to compare what Ocean intended (other than our mental head canon) for future events.
