Seeing these messages got me thinking—do you think Fujino-sensei might just call it quits? He might finish this game, but with all the stress and harassment he's been dealing with, he might choose not to make another one and just focus on his main work instead.
Well, yeah, possible and understandable. We’ll know once it’s finished. I think he might take a break after this one is done and patched. But overall, I'd say he's passionate about his work, and SAO is financially way more successful than his previous games.

working on a popular sao eroge:

+ he is probably making more money than from his day job. It is hard to estimate since membership is free but at the same time the donation cost is small, but I would be surprised if it wasn't substantial.

++ he gets to corrupt asuna

+++ he gets to make kirito a cuck

Although it is true that he has a main job, Fujino receives extra income from Patreon and Ci-en. Lately, living in Japan is very complicated, inflation has increased a lot, and they are poorer due to salary devaluations, so having that extra income can make a difference and that is also an incentive to continue enduring. So I don't think he'll leave the projects.

I don't know how much he makes from his regular job but he makes about $3,000 a month from the game so I think he probably won't quit.

Last monday was updated in the morning, so indeed let's see.
The thing though, we here are way more forgiving then the Cien fans, there at least 5 or 6 pages of comments, questioning when and if he will release the scene.

Follow some of the comments from fans over there:

你这次周一更才补cg,六月底更新的时候,准备更几天,到时候是不是要以明天周一为起点来算,然后说是只有一个半月的时间,期间还要加班,头疼,搬家之类的,然后只更新三天是吗,回答我!!

You only update the CG on Monday this time. When you update at the end of May, how many days will you plan to update? Will you count from tomorrow, Monday, as the starting point? Then you will say that there is only one and a half months, and you will have to work overtime, have headaches, move, etc., and then you will only update for three days, right? Answer me! !

仿佛回到了去年夏天,那时候也差不多。一个月更新不超过五张CG,说是在优化地图和构思剧情,说后面进度会很快,结果这几个月又是这样,中间甚至有一个月没更新也没提前通告。

It seems like I've returned to last summer, when it was similar. No more than five CGs were updated per month, saying they were optimizing the map and conceiving the plot, and that the progress would be fast later, but it's been the same in the past few months, and there was even a month without any updates and no prior notice.

Yeah, damned if you do, damned if you don't...

There's no way he makes that little. On Ci-EN he's got 37k supporters. If 10% of them is paying and 90% is pirating (going by the average plan price) that would still be about 40k per month. And that's just CI-EN, then you've got patreon

Additional income? Fujino has hidden information about the number of paid subscribers on Patreon. But if we just assume based on the subscribers of CI-en and their growth after he started making SAO. These are all pure assumptions, but I think Fujino has anywhere from 400+ paid subscribers on Patreon, from $1 to $10. That is, in the worst case scenario, he gets 400 + dollars per month. But such a science as mathematical statistics denies the possibility of such a thing (or rather, the probability is infinitesimally small) that all subscribers pay only 1 dollar. I'm paying 10, and I'm already violating statistics. I think mostly a large number of subscribers use the average tariff. 5-7 dollars. And I think Fujino has 2000-3000 dollars from Patreon. 300,000 - 430,000 thousand yen per month, and that's not counting CI-en. What kind of job does he have if Patreon is an additional income?

"Sword Art Online: The Trap of Breath Concealed Magic" is Fujino real job.

Naturally, these are all assumptions, but I compared them with my other subscriptions in terms of the number of likes, comments, and the time of the patreon creation. The number of subscriptions to CI-en has increased almost 3 times, and it can be assumed that due to the popularity of the SAO universe, the number of subscribers on Patreon has also grown decently.

Probably his supporter income, especially near the end of the game where it is peaking, is almost certainly more than his real life job. Unless he is very fluent in Japanese and skilled in a tech role, he will be on the equiv of $25k a year, starting graduate pay. But he probably still treats it as "bonus" income because it is temporary.

If his next game is even half as successful, I can see him making it his real job. Maybe his next game will be an original NTR game as that would mean stability in terms of copyright

Even if all these subscribers pay the minimum tariff, it's still 73,000 yen. But again, as I said, this is statistically unlikely, so I think with Ci-en he has 100+ thousand yen. Not a fountain, of course (you won't starve to death), but if you add the Patreon here, then these are completely different prospects.

Fujino has a huge selection of popular titles that are as big as SAO in terms of fans, so I don't think he'll stay hungry, lol.

That won't be possible, since he needs to work full-time to stay in Japan. As far as I know, part-time work alone isn't enough for a visa — Japan usually requires a certain minimum income or a full-time job. Starting an indie dev studio as a foreigner is also tough, unless he has a proper visa like the Business Manager one, which needs investment, a real office, and a solid business plan.

And taxes, terrible taxes for foreigners who want to do business.

oh, you are correct.

in fact, the visa limitations are quite severe. He will have come to Japan already with an employment offer from an existing company, so not only must he do his current job, but he has to do it for his company. Although he can leave his company, he must still work within what his job field is declared in his visa.

importantly, those working in that field are prohibited from doing work in another field. english teachers are on instructor visas for example. and given that he does not own the SAO copyright, i am assuming his payments probably go into a chinese or overseas bank account and are not declared to japan's government, so he is limited on how much he can use.

these rules do not apply to small side gigs, but the amount of money fujino earns would raise a lot of questions if noticed

AI, and it is the cancer of art
from the way you say it, it sounds like you haven't had a great experience with AI.an artist can use AI to take some inspiration and then draw changing something, AI is just a help when one has no ideas what to draw and for me it's just a hobby, IA does not take the place of the artist
