The beginning of the story has been rewritten, all new content starts at "New game"

the very last update is the exception because the new content is the redone start of the game.
I was referring to all the other updates where content was added at the end of the game rather than redoing the start

it's not every single update. The were unlockable saves for the previous 5 updates for nearly the past 2 years: v0.68.2, v0.47.5, v0.22.0, v0.17.0, v0.14.3.

I was absolutely not agreeing with your premise, but we are talking about 2 separate things, yes. The way Unity is saving the data for players is through the windows registry. The windows registry saves information based upon version ID. When a new version is played, the Windows Registry doesn't recognize it as the same item. Is there a different way a developer could save the data for Unity - yes. Do I think that UberPie is doing it because he's greedy? No. Do I think that UberPie is doing it because he doesn't have the skill to do it another way? Yes.

Also, it is a valid counter argument because you are arguing it on this site. If you were arguing it on UberPie's discord or patreon, my response wouldn't be valid. There are about 6k patreons - of which, at most half donate enough to receive access to updates when they go live (for Taffy Tales, needs to be a donation of $5 or greater). And yet there is at least 10k people who find a way to access the update within days. Bottom line is - at least for Taffy Tales - the most a person is out to go through an update "as a patron" is $5 - and since it updates about 2x per year - that's $10 a year. If you want the savegame code (when it's offered) "as a patron" it's maybe $20 per year, at most. Since I have never paid for this - or any other - item that I have downloaded via this site - I have always done so for free.

Unity, by default, sets up saving information through PlayerPrefs which are written to Windows Registry. UberPie, as we can see through many iterations this product, is not that adept at coding, logic mapping, etc. Even with over 400+ fixes in v0.85.1a - I found at least 20 more in my playthrough that should have been easy fixes and easily caught in testing - and yet they remain. I think some things are over his knowledge and skill set.

Also - you seem to disregard that this is a product in development. Not a final product. Any playing of this product before final development is going to have elements that aren't satisfactory in an experience for players. Hell, there are finished products released in mainstream gaming that fail at doing what they should be doing.

Your argument for the most common reason people are here is flawed - you might have that experience yourself and you might know several others, but you have no data to back that up. There are also those who are here because they are flat-broke, their country makes it difficult to transfer funds, porn is illegal in their country to purchase, or - like me - believe that if I have the wherewithal to access it without paying, why pay? I don't attribute your position to any kind of malice - but I do think you are conflagrating the problem by conflating two problems and making it a conspiracy.

I don't think that Unity is flawed. I have looked at what save alternatives there are for Unity - a simple search on the net will show there are a variety of solutions and complaints about PlayerPrefs by players of some mainstream games. There was some talk about the idea of submitting Taffy Tales for Steam at some point - at which that point the game would have savegame compatibility, as well (for those who play on Steam, that is).

Again, this is a product in development - there are things that aren't going to work ... and players should be quite aware they are taking chances at bugs and saves not working, and changes in gameplay/action/art/etc.

What is more telling is that your quick assumption without any valid evidence to support your conclusion that it is a malicious action.

Backyard is "gym clothes" ... when asking for help, please use the exact wording of the quest because many have very similar words but different actions.

Your current quest says "Head to the gym" -- Who are you supposed to meet at the gym? There is a couple which you have been having dialogues with who said you need to build your strength. Look for them.

To help you out, I've numbered your arguments and put my responses in same order so that you can follow along. I don't think you mean any harm by what you are saying but you showing your hand about your world view and how you interact with others.

1. You seem to be mistaken about what I was saying. I was refuting your first two sentences with my first two sentences. I added the third sentence to further refute your position because "PR" (Public Relations) is a term coined in the past 140 years, but the idiom - or some form of it, has been around for over 250.
2. And yes, you twisted the words in the rearrangement of the idiom to promote your own world view.
3. The idiom is not wrong. You are the one who is incorrect or mistaken or misguided. You haven't shown how it is wrong, you haven't shown how you are correct. You are the one making the argument it is wrong. - as well as the idea that UberPie is intentionally monetizing by breaking "savegame compatibility every single update". You have presented nothing to support your belief.
4. You threw out PR, now politicians, as the "inventors" of the phrase. Both of those positions are incorrect. The oldest variant is attributed to Goethe, who was a scientist and author.

Again, this is a product in development and no one can expect a project in development to work as it will be intended in its final iteration. This includes bugs, saves which may not be compatible, as well as other situations which may arise in a product that is not completed. You get the opportunity to play it while it is in development. You can choose to wait until it is completed. You choose not to. Any experiences you have with the product prior to completion are because of your choice.

It does not matter whether or not he is intentionally breaking save compatibility, or breaking it due to incompetence.

Very well, allow me to provide proof. (something you will never do)

According to my F95 games directory I am playing 289 games downloaded from F95. I have tried some more which I deleted the folder of after downloading.

Of those 289 games, 1 of which breaks the save game every single version.
taffy tales = 6 releases in last 2 years all had this issue. Moreover there is not even an attempt to import them, we are flat out told it is incompatible. I had tried transplanting them before, it detected them as old saves and refused to try to load them.

4 games of 289 break saves frequently enough for me to complain about in my review. But not every single update.

1 out of 289 = 0.34%
that means 99.66% of games manage to not break your save every time (actually even higher than that, due to the deleted games).
As 99.66% is indeed greater than 99% my claim that 99%+ of games manage to not delete your save every single time is correct.

Thus your claim that early access games cannot be expected to, as a matter of policy, not delete your save files every single update. Is the height of sophistry. As 99.66% of games do not do it.
Note that the 1.24% of games that have frequent enough save breaking that I complain differ in that they at least make the attempt to import your save between versions. And often even do so successfully. They just have a failure rate high enough to have bothered me in their attempt at importing old saves.
