Without going into spoilers I'll say that the story is actually worth reading, I haven't skipped much text while playing (unlike in many other porn games).
There are some pacing issues and some stuff happen suddenly. The choices are supposedly meaningful but other than a few I think they just change some text.
Art 5/10
It's acceptable but not great 2d. No real animations as well. The tiles are terrible.
Gameplay 7/10
The combat and UI are pretty basic RPGM . The combat system is dated but really well made. Usually don't mind the music but I played the game muted, its pretty bad. I like the character's move sets.
Amount of Content 7/10
I'm not done with the game and I've played a solid 8-10 hours already.
The porn stuff is more than enough though.
Review will be updated when I finish the game, for now a 4 is the best I can give it.
On one hand it is extremely complex story with solid character writing and worldbuilding. On the other there are several major issues that bring it down significantly. My TLDR would be that it is 5/5 30-40 hour 2010 game that has been stretched to around 100-120 hours that will probably be released in 2025.
There is far, far too much filler - mazelike maps, overtuned fights in a system that frankly can not bear the weight that is placed on it, effectively mandatory map clearing to not fall even further behind, arcanely driven quests and events. Then there are the usual old RPG maker quirks which further bring down the experience such as general ux design or the fixed size game window(which by the way was actually solved in a different game in the same engine as far as I know).
And my major problem is that these characteristics interact in a way to create overcomplicated behemoth that is not enjoyable moment to moment.
What AAA games ought to be, plus sex. No game scratches the "competitionist/optimizer/choices matter/fantastic writing" itch like this does. Full disclosure, I am an active patron of Siera Lee's at the time of this review.
A free game has no right being this good.
One of the very few games on this site I play not for the sex scenes. I actually skim most of them, not that they are bad, but just not why I'm here. Which is interesting considering how sexual everything is in the game.
As I'm a more negative kind of person, I tend to focus on the negative parts - or put nicely in the case of this review, positive criticism of things I think could have been done better.
1) Combat
I hate RPG maker vx. Though I understand the game is old now.
I hate RPG maker combat even more. While I will admit the rpg-combat side in this game is relatively well done, it's only by rpg maker standard.
I wish there were less "random" encounters. Now, I know they aren't really random, but because the way the game works you are kinda "forced" to do every combat you can encounter. You can't rush past an area when you don't feel like fighting and grind a bit later because of the limited XP mechanic. And there is way too much combat overall.
2) Hidden stats
I have a love-hate relationship with all the hidden stats in this game. I like some of them but damn I wish the game was more obvious about them somehow. I think this works better for short game but this game is actually fairly long so it becomes annoying sometimes.
It kinda extends to other decisions, such as investments. Game just gives too little info on how doing things impact stuff.
3) Characters are a bit "too easy"
I mean, I guess it's that kind of game, but...Sometimes I felt like a lot of characters were a bit too easy to convince.
4) 'Fake choices'
For lack of better words, sometimes I felt like choices were a bit fake. Especially once you get back later on while reading guides and walkthrough. When I mean fake, I don't mean "there was no choice to be taken", but more like "there was a clearly superior choice to be taken".
Admittedly, it's not easy to handle. Ultimately, someone will make an optimal route playthrough bal bla bla.
For example, to give some early game choices which feel just fake when looking back.
(note I'm only talking narratively; maybe from a gameplay point of view someone might think it is a bit different)
EDIT: I'm near the end of the game and I do have one complaint: pacing.
I started to get a bit tired from the game and after looking at the save file I understood why - I have been doing side quests for 15 hours already, and I know I still have 5 hours of side quests to do at least....probably closer to 10, really.
To keep it spoiler free, big events happen for the prelude of the "final act", then you get a "last open world section" to tie up loose ends. Great! However, for better and for worse, dev decided to add all the content they somehow forgot to add throughout the game in this section, including a personal quest for almost every main character. (I call it side content since essentially most of it is optional and you can just skip it, as far as I can tell)
On the one hand, I like almost all of them from a story perspective. On the other hand, the amount of running around and pointless dungeons is just too much considering the main story isn't moving forward.
I wish the quests were set in a way that they could be started much earlier to better pace it out. For example, for the most part, there is no reason we would need to wait this moment to start Ralia's request.
I guess my point is I like too much the characters to skip all those quests, but damn I wish they were more to the point and with less chore in them considering we are on the last stretch of the game and they are ruining the pacing entirely; we have an great threat and the world is about to end but we spend literal months doing busywork or looking all around the world for random shit.
This is possibly the best game I've ever played. It's free. It's fantastic. This thread has an immense amount of useful info. You can do so much in this game! Yarra has one thing wrong though, Qum is the best succubi.
Amazing old school rpg with tasteful adult content. This is what a good adult game looks like. So many options, solid game mechanics, great characters, and some good art too. Writing is very well done too.
Game is honestly really long and there is a lot of stuff to do. Music tracks are nice, artwork is pretty decent. There are a lot of briliant commedy parts that made me laugh, so that's a huge plus. The veriety of the world is great. Some fights can be tough and game actualy makes you think about choosing your formation, and swapping it in the middle of the fight, so that's a big plus for me. On 1 hand I really appreciate how complex the system can be and how many stats there are. Almost everything you do will have consequences in the future. That said, sometimes I just wanted to paly the game... The ammount of time I put into reading various wiki pages on what will happen, what outcome is the best, how many stats will I gain by choosing different approaches - It can be quite tiring at times. But ovearll, deffinitely a good recommendation for some1 who likes RPGM games and wants to spend a bit more time than usual on 1 game.
Greatest Game of all time. I don't like RPGMs, but this game singlehandly changed my mind. Hope y'all have as much fun with it as I did. Great scenes, great jokes, great mechanics, everything great. Qum is one of the best characters ever imagined
Massive RPGM construct that excels in storytelling and world-building. It's not particularly smutty or titillating.
The writing borrows from western LitRPG more than videogames. The main themes of politics, religion, sexuality, and intricate magic systems are woven together and make up the soul of this game. The cultures and characters of the world are diverse in ways that are somewhat immersion-breaking: Some, including the mercenary protagonist, sound like they have the author's liberal arts education. In other places, feudal lords, religious conservatives, and modern progressives coexist in a tense balance. The decidedly alien, but very cleverly conceived succubus society is a delightful exception, proving that the author's imagination is not overly tainted by modernity.
The gameplay is highly cerebral to match the drapes of the writing. Battles play out like puzzles, highly dependent on preparation. But there is no grinding for levels. Otherwise, the game is about politicking to achieve the optimal results. This is double-edged: On one hand, the many branching paths and the weight of player decisions are perhaps the most impressive thing about the game. However, the sheer amount of decisions is so staggering, with many easily missed triggers, far-reaching consequences, and incredibly tight requirements for optimal results, that players are heavily encouraged to follow walkthroughs, and min-max instead of roleplaying. The game does tolerate a large degree of failure from the player, and failures are occasionally even rewarded with unique scenes and comeback mechanics. Still, it is possible to be soft-locked or be hit with a Game Over in several scenarios, if you haven't engaged with the politicking seriously enough. Such punishment, or just the threat of them, leads most players down the path of walkthrough-reading, and away from enjoying the game. It'd be a 5/5 game if not for this.
This game is excellent!
Honestly most of the time I just enjoy the intricacies of the combat system.
The characters are believable, lovable and just well written.
The worldbuilding just makes sense. The story is great and the long term consequences of your actions and decisions being relevant for this long is something I've rarely seen outside of adult entertainment.
Honestly once you get into the combat system and the world you just can't get out of it. It honestly was addicting.
In summary:
The writing is top notch
The world building is fantastic
The characters are great
The combat system is addicting
The adult scenes are good and come at a good frequency
There is just so much to love about this game
Easiest recommendation and review of my life
I can understand why this game is interesting for some people, but it didn't appeal to me. First of all, it has poor visuals even by RPGM standards. There are no animated scenes and if the goal is to get aroused and see sex, this game doesn't deliver. The sex scenes are more comedic or just a very superficial picture with a long text describing the scene. This is a big problem for me because I play these games for the lewd scenes. If I want to play a JRPG without sex, there are already AAA standard games. I played for close to two hours and despite everything I found the story of the game very interesting and funny, so the writing is really good but as I said it sadly doesn't appeal to me in terms of visual presentation. Still, I don't regret trying the Last Sovereign.
When the prologue threw me for a loop (twice), I knew I stumbled into something I would thoroughly enjoy.
200h+ later, after reaching the epilogue and the end of the available content to date, I can say I wasn't wrong. The worldbuilding is impressively complex and enjoyable, the choices and their heavy impacts on wars and other events made me realize just how much work and passion has been put in this game.
And last but not least, the characters, especially an incredible MC supported by a fully fleshed out and equally amazing harem cast, developping wholesome relationships with a very positive sexual component. The latter was really welcome: it's not seen as often as one might think in adult games, and made for a really refreshing experience.
Now, I'm eagerly waiting for the postgame, but I really wanted to thank you, Sierra Lee, for making such an amazing game. I'll definitly keep an eye on any of your future work, and I wish you luck in your future endeavours!
Without a doubt the best adult game ever made. While constrained by rpgm the game's writing, story and depth of gameplay are AAA quality. Only slight drawback is the graphics but if you're just looking for tits then there is an entire internet out there.
This is such an amazing game and a true Diamond in the rough. First and foremost, this is an amazing bit of writing and game making that happens to have sex as an integral part of it. This glorious combination is wanted by all by rarely, if ever, seen. TLS is straight up one of my top 5 RPGs ever, and yes I mean ALL RPGs, not just JRPGs. It's better than Skyrim, Pokemon, hell it even edges out Mass Effect in the writing department. I don't mean to endlessly glaze, but Sierra Lee deserves it. If you like JRPGs, this game is a must-play. Imo, it is the definitive RPGM game.
Extremely well-written and detailed, The Last Sovereign has many unique characters, unexpected plot twists and tough decisions in store. Browsing the game's wiki reveals the hidden depths of the game that you wouldn't expect at first glance.
90 hours.
90 honest to god hours.
90 hours of brilliant storytelling, difficult bosses, economic management, heartfelt conversations, and sometimes H-scenes (I'll be honest, I skipped most of the sex scenes)
I'm not even done with the game, currently in the absolutely brutal Lilith dungeon near the end. I probably still have another 5-10 hours before the game is done.
9/10 would study a walkthrough before engaging in politics again.
spend around 12 hours on the game, great game, a little lost on my playthrough but still a great game, a lot of contents, the girls are beautiful, lot of paths to choose, u can be an asshole or u can be a gentleman game gives you a lot of choices so ye you should play
This game is great because it developed differently from the others. It started as a RPG that focused mostly on text and management themes instead of art. By focusing on story it has kept its base as a good game while adding on more art and sexual elements over time. This means that no matter what you will enjoy the gaming and lewd aspects instead of running into the issue where the game is struggling to keep up with the art.
Fucking fantastic. Writing is better than 99% of everything else on here and is truly immersive. You get exposed to things at the right time and everything feels fluid. LI are incredibly diverse and yet they're all appealing and hot. Can't recommend it enough if you're looking for something to really dig your teeth into. My one tip would be to not rely on a walkthrough too much; difficult decisions are what makes this game fun!
One of the best, If not the best H game i've ever played . easily put 100+ hours to it .
Reason ?
- Great Story
- A lot of character that actually had story of their own
- A lot of content available
- NO GRIND
- Multiple choice in dialog that ACTUALLY impact the outcome of the game
And a lot more .
