Judging by that synopsis, the "dark theme" is probably betrayal/cheating. Such things do create trauma after all and you either move on or get stuck in the past. That would explain the "Your decision in the present will determine the path you take. The past will either make or break you." part.

It is, she is in every scene tha MC is in. Although I dont mind her tbh but it will probably get old very quick going forward. I would like the whole cheating ex stuff to get resolved already but it seems like something that will take a while

It gets old, it really does. MC's are either a total pushover, a bumbling horny idiot or a complete asshole.

Nothing really "Dark" about being cheating on, that happens to people everyday. Now if the MC becomes a serial killer because of it then that's something entirely different. The title doesn't hint at that, however, so my guess is the "Dark" element is that he's secretly a Democrat.
