Did anyone ever figure out the problem with nikkiscene010, nikkiscene011, and karennikki001?
Downloaded everything fresh today, the game and the mod, and those 3 scenes are still broken in the mod.

This is extremely late, but saw this just yesterday and I think I managed to fix the code to play those properly from the gallery, please tell me if there's another scene buggued and I'll try to fix it. beautyjenny96 also had this problem

Just discovered this game and wanted to play it with the patched version, but the goddamn thing is broken and all the advice from the OP didn't help
I fixed it on MacOS, but I think the solution would work on all platforms:
1. Download latest RenPy
2. Copy a directory with "game" folder inside and name it somehow like "thevisit"
3. open renpy with "thevisit" parent directory as project dir
4. click "delete persistent" in renpy menu
5. click "Force recompile" in renpy menu
6. click "Launch project"
7. it works
