The HOTs should just have a say in it, they should be the only one who decide with whom THEY are partying in the future. What BS is this whole meeting?
Historically, fraternities and sororities are paired off. Some of those sororities were founded as women’s auxiliaries to the fraternities; some of them are technically still auxiliaries, and not full sororities. So they have to party together. It’s in their charters.

Sage even points out the HOTs aren’t actually allowed (in their charter) to throw parties. They do it anyway and call them “mixers.” That’s because the expectation is every party would be done in conjunction with the fraternity they associate with, and held at the frat house.

Apparently the Alphas and HOTs have this setup. Yes it’s bullshit, but they can’t just change it. They’d have to get alumni approval—the alumni help pay for everything, so they have a vote, and sometimes a veto—and some alumni refuse to change anything, cuz it’s tradition. The DIKs, in comparison, have only one alumnus, Vinny, who doesn’t pay for shit; and one sponsor, Rusty’s dad. They can do whatever the fuck they want.

All of that is just made-up speculation not really based on anything that is said during that talk outside of "we have traditions". At no point are finances part of that talk.

And they do change it in the end after all anyway, so all that is mute. DPC needs this "conflict" between the AAAs and DIK to keep going on with the HOTs standing between them, because that is needed for the rest of the story. So he contrives it too much instead of writing it believable.

It’s not based on the game; it’s based on real-life fraternities and sororities. I’m just explaining how it’d work if they really existed. DPC of course can make the AAAs and HOTs work however he wants.

The thing is, if that was his idea behind it, he could have anyone of the parties talking about it. Like Sage could've said "we have rules that we have to check with our Alumnis" or whatever and that would've made the whole scene at least somewhat more believable.

Sage touches on this when telling MC that Rusty lives in a bubble, way back in episode 5. Alumni and other donors help pay for the frats and sororities, on top of members paying dues.

That had a completely different context. That was about paying for the repairs, not about who can party with whom.

But you're wondering why there's traditions to follow instead of the HOTs being allowed to party with whomever they want: this is a reason why, alumni get a say because they pay for shit.
Why would alumnis even care with whom they party, especially if they really don't want to. That would be counterproductive for everybody and it is also not what is said in the scene.

Do you count as an alumni if you walk out in disgrace though? Not trolling, genuine question. (Same may welll apply to Nick of course if he doesn't come back).
Actually you're probably right. I don't know either, we don't have frats in Australia, but I'd guess if you don't graduate you probably wouldn't be almuni.
