Honestly, I don't know about Gumdrop and ICSTOR's situation simply because I don't like those games that much so I never check those threads and I don't know their situations. But what I do can tell you without knowing that much about those two devs, is that you're comparing a guy who took like 1,5-2 years for an update (Gumdrop) and a guy who took like 8-12 months for an update (ICSTOR) with a guy who released an update 5 months ago.

Why Gumdrop and ICSTOR still have patreons you ask? I don't know. Maybe it's because they already liked what they played so they don't mind supporting him for a while even with no updates. Maybe it's because they like the dev's work and they think the wait is worthy. Maybe is because they think that the dev is still working as much as he can even if progress is slow.

What I definitelly can tell you that it isn't a reason why people is still supporting those devs, is because no one is pointing them with a gun on their heads forcing them to support those devs. Those patreons are there, of there own free will.

I personally have a big problem to remember any subscriptions that I make, and, when I do, I normally get lazy to cancel them. So, idk how many subscribers are actually aware of the current situation - that they are supporting a "dead" developer. They might just have loved DOD and never looked back again.

Besides, he is still giving updates of the situation, it might not be enough for most people here on F95 that complain, as these are the harder ones to please, but it still ain't a dead developer.

I've done a lot of video editing myself, and if he get lost while doing the remake of a renpy scene (making a lot of extra non-planned upgrades) I can only imagine how he must be lost trying to make the best trailer ever. It's for a steam release, you only have one small chance on launch date to stand out and get people to play your game, it's a pretty big deal.

I'll wait until march of next year before I start to worry about this remake ever being released.

The idea is, doing what he already did and made him "famous" and everyone loved, again but this time with better quality, with the animations that he promised but never delivered and this time sell it for money on Steam. It's not that hard if you think about it.

Where did this come from you ask? DoD always had some "unfinished" things here and there that the dev never addresed until now. Animations were supposed to be added in DoD (not MP), the feets/ass/boobs choices lead nowhere, and I probably could remember some more if I played the game again. Also DoD places 19th in the most liked games (MP is 27th) so it's still a pretty popular and loved game.

If you'd prefer a new MP update instead of this, that's fine, I prefer this over MP any day of the week. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you or me would prefer because it's the dev's game, the dev's time and the dev's decision.
