As of 0.16H1 Breeding pens don't seem to work properly; Two characters with positive breeding stat each, but the overall "Breeding Speed" stat seems to be stuck at -100.
Am I missing something, or is this a major bug?

Also, a few minor bugs I've noticed:
Item hit chances don't update for missing characters (eg: a leash will show the capture chance of the character that last occupied position 3, if the number of enemies drop to 2). It's nothing major, but has been in the game since 0.1.something.
Changing the gear of the reciever in the Breeding Pen shows the breeding imageupon returning to the breeding pen's screen.

The only research in this game is the favor tree, where you unlock stuff by spending favor. Note that once you reclaim the shrine, it appears in the favor tree. Unlocking it there should enable you to upgrade the shrine.
When you upgrade a shrine once, it will be able to produce tier 2 favor, which can be used to unlock the second ring of technologies.

"Requirements not met" means that advanced version of the building has special requirements that current location does not meet. For example, tier 1 latex producer can be put anywhere, but tier 2 needs to be put near latex terrain or latex spring terrain. You can see the requirements by attempting to construct a tier 2 building directly.

What I was running into was a bug where if you just click on the shrine and go to the upgrades tab, the button says "Unresearched". If you walk UP to a shrine and select the "Visit Shrine" button, then it becomes available to upgrade. I didn't realize this.

Wow. That was unexpected, but it explains my past problems with the shrines too.

Does your population is overcap? you can get quite a bit if you have not unlocked shrine or enough housing, and captured a lot of girls. You can capture them easier when overcap because you can improve chances with bondage or just luck out on 30% roll. But what I noticed breeding speeds tank a lot unless you have quite high arousal and obedience stat to boost breeding speeds.

P.S. just build enough houses to house most of your population should help with breeding speed, or unlock or upgrade more shrines if you overcapped. But lvl 2 starting shrine gives you like max cap of 40 girls or so or maybe 60 so should be quite a bit for a while. Still need to build houses to house them.

After having checked, it was, in fact, an issue with housing. Unfortunately, the only place anything about it affecting breeding speed was mentioned was on the pop-up related to housing, so I didn't notice.

As an idea for future updates, maybe adding something that breaks down all effects that affect a building's speed within the building itself would be great.

So maybe I'm just really dumb, but with the new version, after the shrine is upgraded trying to produce level 2 favor it's saying "incompetent worker" even though the worker assigned has 240 compliance. What am I missing? Where can I go to look up requirement for the workers required for a building?

Hover the mouse over a recipe, it should tell you requirements. Most advanced recipes need worker level to be 10+.
