It's a porn game. Have the 19-year-old walk into a random Fortune 10 company, have a meet-cute with female CEO that immediately swoons meeting him and gives him a position leading his own department, and you wouldn't even need to bother with steps 2 and 3. Super easy, indeed! :LUL:

step 1. get a job
step 2. sell the giant mansion you cannot afford.
step 3. buy a much smaller house at a cheaper area.

billions of human manage to do it without accepting a bribe from a literal drug using rapist (on multiple occasions he secretly drugs the women) to be let into their home for the explicit purpose of raping their relatives using drugs.
Wait, wait, wait, you can sell off a house that you haven't paid for yet?

Actually yeah, isn't the House technically the bank's right now until they pay it off?

Also like, again, the game has economic problems for the main character because that's a common trope within the genre, this game is analysing the genre of the House Game as a whole, it had to have the family being in financial strains due to the loss of the Pater Familias, with the Male Lead AND the Rival trying to supplant this role of economic provider in their own way, it's the same reason why Tiff needs money for her mother's cancer and the only way for her to get it is by getting them from either us or Hunter in the bad ending.

This is an analysis of the fundamental "patriarchal" nature of these sort of games, of course the MC cannot not have money problems at first that's the common trope which is a mirror to the reality most people who live in the US, IE housing and economic problems are a grim reality these sort of game work as an escape from by creating an easy and titillating way to escape from, in most cases by turning women the MC has power over into some degree of sex worker, which BTW makes the first Family hunter corrupted in one of the Nordic Democracies all the more interesting given the state of the Welfare state up there.

This to say Porn is a Mirror of the Society it's made in, and doubly so Porn as Archetypal as an House Game, the protagonist has to have money problems for the same reason why we had a surge in Landlord Porn when the American housing market crashed, Reality is Mirrored for the Enjoyment of the Masses.

Most probably you can sell the house, but you still would have to pay the mortgage. And then you have nowhere to live.
Maybe a rather foolish idea - except if you really have to.

yes..... yes you can.. do you think everyone with a mortgage is forced to live in the house they bought until the mortgage is fully paid off? no, you put the thing back up for sale, someone buys it (preferably for more than or at least = to the amount owed on current mortgage.), pay off the remaining amount on said mortgage. I thought this was common knowledge.

is this news to you?
The bank loaned you the money, but the house is yours and you owe money to the bank.
The bank may repossess your house if you fail to pay your mortgage. If you sell it, you use the money from the sale to pay off the mortgage. Then use the leftover money towards your new house (which gets a new mortgage).
Actually yeah, isn't the House technically the bank's right now until they pay it off?
No, that is not how mortgage works.

What happens to your mortgage when you sell your home?
When you sell, ideally you’d have enough equity to pay off your loan balance, cover closing costs and turn a profit. Upon closing, the buyer’s funds first pay off your remaining loan balance and closing costs, then you are paid the rest. If you're selling your home relatively soon after purchasing, check with your lender to see if a prepayment penalty applies to your loan.
Incidentally, if your house value dropped a lot and the mortgage is more than its worth. this scenario is called being underwater.
In such a case you can instead declare bankruptcy.
The house gets repossessed. but your debt is all gone. This can be worthwhile if, for example, you owe 500k on a house worth 300k. then by doing a bankrupcy you immediately "earn" 200k dollars
It will mean no buying new home for 7 years (IIRC this game is set in the USA. and in the USA the law states that credit history events get deleted after 7 years. so the banks legally cannot have a record of you having declared bankruptcy 7 years ago).

for those 7 years you will have to rent

> If you sell your house. you are legally not allowed to buy a new one.
> If you sell your house. you are legally not allowed to rent a place to live in.

lol. lmao even. this is not how it works. not even remotely.
That's some real "Ben Shapiro" level thinking. First somehow get away with murdering your grandfather, then land a decent paying job as a 19-year-old with no skills or experience, then buy a home with no credit and no savings. Super easy, barely an inconvenience!
1. self defense. he literally drugged your sister and tried to rape her. if you knife him on the spot you can easily claim self defense. almost certain to be declared not guilty. very low odds of going to prison.
Worse case scenario... he actually really does go to prison. shrug. shit happens.

2. mom is the one who owns the house and she has a credit score. she must have been paying on time because the house was not repossessed. so her credit should be good to take a mortgage for a different house after selling this one.

3. savings are covered by the sale of the existing home. unless it is underwater then its sale will produce some equity after covering the existing mortgage. which, if you downsize properly (as this family clearly should), would cover a decent down payment.

4. IIRC mom has a job.

5. you say it sarcastically, but it literally is super easy, barely an inconvenience.

In this story, in order to facilitate the kind of porn the dev wants to happen, he has made it so that somehow nobody in the family thinks of the very simple route of just selling their giant fancy home and buying a much smaller one that fits in their actual budget. And the MC is just ok with not only actively hiding from his family the fact that their tenant (hunter) is a drug using rapist. but also pretending to help him while secretly sabotaging him. and ALSO fucking his own mom and sisters because "that is how he can keep them safe from hunter".

The harem is not realistic at all. it is a porn plot.
The netorare is not realistic at all. it is a porn plot.
This is porn, not reality.

The thing is, I never expected it to be realistic.
What I am baffled at is all you people who INSIST that this perfectly realistic scenario and that all the people have no choice but going along with what is a blatant porno plot.

I don't understand why people are saying Sterling needs to get a job. He and Brenna are already paying the mortgage.

Once Sterling got the money sorted with Brenna he switched to getting rid of Hunter. What delayed it for a few chapters was him being surrounded by 10-15 hotties throwing themselves at him 24/7. Sterling is a teenager and being actively drugged with aphrodisiacs. Having as much evidence as possible when he accused hunter was important as we saw.

Also selling the house was not an option. To convince Ophelia to sell the house while Hunter is paying all the bills and mortgage would require telling her about Hunter which Sterling had little evidence for.

Even if he somehow convinced her without outing Hunter to somehow sell a massive house in a small town to cover both the family's mortgage and new home plus bills. Hunter would just go with them.

1) I'm not sure that self defense argument would hold up in court, but the point is moot because I was originally questioning this:
If i were in his shoes, grandad would have an 'accident' pretty much immediately after the first conversation.
At that early point in the story, Hunter hadn't done all the terrible things that keep getting mentioned. You can't justify actions using future events.

2 & 3) If there's equity in the home, then yeah, Ophelia could probably sell it to at least cover her debts, but we don't actually know what she owes so it's hard to say.

4) Ophelia does NOT have a (paying) job, she's been a stay-at-home mom since she was a teenager.

5) Yes it was sarcasm, but also a popular reference.

it absolutely would.
ESPECIALLY so in the USA where you have a jury.
You need to convince 12 jurors to ALL unanimously vote guilty for you to be declared guilty.
At that early point in the story, Hunter hadn't done all the terrible things that keep getting mentioned. You can't justify actions using future events.
well, fair enough that it would be a lot harder to get acquitted in a scenario where all you have is your own word that he told you he is going to rape the girls and there is no drugged out girl and drug delivery method who can be tested for drugs.
2 & 3) If there's equity in the home, then yeah, Ophelia could probably sell it to at least cover her debts, but we don't actually know what she owes so it's hard to say.
a. dev never actually bothered telling us that the house is underwater. explicitly stating as such would have made it better. although still silly.
b. If the home is underwater. you should declare bankrupcy and then rent a much smaller home at a size you can afford.

You got 4 able bodied people in the house. at least one of them should get a job.

And frankly I would rather move to a trailer park than literally help someone drug and rape my family members.
I also would not try to incest fuck my relatives IRL.
as mentioned, neither the harem nor the NTR is realistic. both are porn plots.
4) Ophelia does NOT have a (paying) job, she's been a stay-at-home mom since she was a teenager.
Huh. ok, well, I misremembered there.
Why does not a single person in the house have a job?
I am not talking high end stuff here. Even basic simple jobs would do.
5) Yes it was sarcasm, but also a popular reference.
I know. I recognized the sarcasm and I recognized the reference.
I am also saying that unironically, it would be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

The meme is about actually difficult to impossible things being glossed over.
Not basic shit like "get a job and spend less money"

Lets not forget. Everyone writes Hunter as this "Big Bad", but in reality. All his accomplisments are in non-canon bad ends. The most he has SUCCESSFULLY done in the canon story is touch Ophelia's ass at the start of the game (barely) and keep them on drugs (that have all been to STERLING'S benefit).

Lets face it. Hunter is a joke because he's written to be a joke.
