tbf some game (avn) famous one or not so famous one, do have a yearly update cycle for whatever reason.

the problem with atemsiel are
1. they start to ghost their patron, no patreon post in between month for example no post at all in september 2024; November 2024 and january 2025. i wont count discord chat as a form of communication (even he also start to hide in discord). this is the very clear and bad sign of a game that will soon be abandoned

2. instead of focusing in developing the game, Atem start a side patreon projekt (poll based render) to "appease" some (undestandable) people that start becoming impatient. only to drop the side projekt after 2 months of running.

3. the last post in patreon (december 2024), stated that because of his perfectionist, he hasnt finish the script for the next update yet........ so no progress AT ALL in more than 10 months.... (my bad this one wrong game but similar situation)

TBH, i am amazed by his loyal paid patron that give atem a minimum 1,2k per month or 120k per year even though atem clearly said that there are no progress in more than 10 months LMAO
To be fair, those games (ie BaDIK etc) with yearly update cycles tend to be from established proven developers with completed games under their belt. And usually the development cycle didn't start out like that- it lengthened over time as the underlying game became massive and far more complicated.

Stormside has been in development for only 3 years with a newbie developer and we are already at >1 year for updates. Numerous LI paths haven't even kicked off yet and major plot elements are barely even developed. Then you've got all the side girls, the ghost busting freeroam stuff, the ambitious underlying plot...

Maybe there is a monster update coming that Atemsiel hinted at in this thread back in November, but then what? 18 months till the next update? When you think about it, it's hard to be particularly optimistic about this game.

I scrolled back a few pages, didn't see any dev updates. When was the last time he posted news? Always was excited for an update for this game.

There was a supporter update around christmas; it's posted here somewhere I think.

He answered some questions on patreon last week. The goal seems to be having this update published in february, but I'll believe it when I see it.

What's the update frequency? Kinda worried since last update was in early 2024

Atemsiel when people post memes wondering if their choice to include so many choices might make people choose to believe there's too many choices for them to choose to continue developing a game with so many choices

And I choose to believe he'll deliver. That's my choice.

LOVE what I played so far. But like many other games i've really gotten into...it ended suddenly. Obviously unfinished, but god damn was that a downer.

It really all comes down to this. A dev's word means absolutely nothing unless they show up and hold true to their word. There are quite the fair share of devs out there who say so much only to either fail and have some excuse ready as to why, or not show up entirely.

Now... this game has promise, no doubt. But at the same time, if rumors on already planned things and such were ready to go and what not are true, then holding out for well over a year till this possible month to release something? It's safe to say there should be cause for concern and doubt.

well now see here, I done gone and enjoyed this here thing and happened to notice, if said rumens and such planned things and such were already here and done to go and what not are not false, then if one were to say prepare and propagate well over a fifth of a score, I dare say it's well within the right of serhawkes here to impregnate his cleaning lady, regardless of whether said cleaning lady holds promise or not to her pre-assessed ability to satisfy her ability to show up.

She better show up. Or else. You know what I mean man?

Yeah, you know what I mean.

Jokes on you, she's already pregnant. Also, how the fuck did you find out so fast?!

Joking aside, we are now all at the wait and see element to see if atemsiel will deliver a release by months end or so or in all likelyhood we end up with another Braindrop in the making. Now, for me I try to be as neutral as possible when it comes to matters such at these. Real life tends to matter more than putting out an update just to take care of potential bottom line. If real life is messing up the schedual a tad, then sure there is some measure of giving a bit of leeway. But if it persists and it's kept being pushed back further and further? Then yeah, thats more a red flag than anything.

so he claims to have 4500 renders and 200 animations ready but chooses to not release any of it? smells like bullshit.
The changelog is there for anyone to read, you know (e.g. 0.22.04 had even more, 5400+ renders). This is not an abnormal size for his updates, and he absolutely will not release an unfinished update just because it hits an arbitrary render count. His update breakpoints are directly based on the story beats where he wants to put in a break.
