Well, technically they've got their OWN rooms. So they're not roommates either. Housemates? Does that bend porn logic too far?I want to play a game where the story makes sense.
No, they're roommates.
I'm okay with them being adoptive siblings. It makes perfect sense that they're conflicted about their relationship.
The problem is that adoptive siblings don't call each other roommates, they call themselves brother and sister.
I understand that they don't even call each other step-brother and step-sister because of Patreon rules.
But to say that their relationship works fine without the patch is simply incorrect.
By the way, this is the main reason why I don't think Nika is blood related to the Zanes. Imagine how this would affect the main plot and then try to organically replace it with something in the story without the patch because at least half of the LIs could be Nika's sisters.
It doesn't matter what label/noun you give them, they've been raised playing together since they were young and have fit in with the expectations of growing up together, mimicking what they see of the other kids at school. Yet some people even get weirded out transgressing the friendzone as though they sky will break open, despite it being a complete mental construct. The tension is because of their highly developed mental image of each other, patch or no patch.
