While I agree with your overall sentiment that this game tends to be overly dramatic and each character has their own demons from the past, I still think you're misreading Zara's character a little. This is not about her competitiveness itself, which is a result of her past negative experiences, it's not the real Zara's problem. Many of the characters are competetive too, Nadia, Nami, the MC, basically most of the college athletes.

Her problem is fear of failure, dependence on authority, and therefore problem of making real friends. Because she has an unconscious need to prove herself to others, and this manifests itself in constant trials and challenges to the people around her. It makes it difficult for them to be comfortable with her. Nadia is probably her only true friend, because she understands her and is similar in some ways. The rest are not very good, although many appreciate her positive qualities, Vic and Bella as an example, but nevertheless Zara's difficult character prevents them from getting closer. Even Vanessa gets annoyed by her sometimes.

I don't think Zara became competitive because her mother abused her, she probably always liked to compete. But because her mother planted some fears in her subconscious as a child, it affected her adult life and made it difficult for her now. And I like that the MC can help her because he understands people. And I love that he acts with confidence, he knows what he is doing and what outcome he expects and comments on it to us through his internal monologue. And I absolutely love that if the MC decides to be kind to Zara and try to help her, he ends up making the wonderful loyal friend, and maybe even more than just a friend.

No, I don't agree that there are too much broken past characters. Citing Amber "Facing our fears is one of the biggest challenges in life." I think this phrase could become the refrain of the game, for me this is exactly what SG is about. All the characters do is fighting their fears, the MC, Mila, Vic, Nami, Bella, Nia, even shorty Beanpole. Zara is no exception.

Oh, and of course, this game is also about boobs. About big, huge, gigantic, enormous, unimaginable boobs. This is the second very important point of the game.

I agree that it does start to numb the feelings a bit when more and more characters stack up with the tragic backstory; makes me start to question "What tragic backstory will the next character have?" instead of asking "What will the possible backstory be for the character?"

For example, with games like DeLuca, obviously with characters like Luna, Cordia, and Eiza, there is the factor of that immense tragedy or trauma that involves their characters.
Yet, there are characters who will have the tragedy/trauma, but likely to lesser extent (Gracie & Isabel), and there's also ones who start off with no tragic backstory at all (like Siobhan).

That type of mix, I guess is acceptable to me, but I guess with DeLuca I suppose more characters having tragedy in them is acceptable for me given the setting (the mafia and Crime Family settings, no doubt things rarely go as well).
*But I guess not just Crime setting. If the setting is the world is in total chaos where everyone is suffering in an unforgiving environment, then it would make sense I suppose that more characters would get a tragic upbringing.
It's just that DeLuca is the only example I could bring up as comparison right now lol.

Having said that, I do think it starts to become a stretch that more students in a modern day setting are either broken/traumatized/abused that it becomes a bit of pattern.

With Zara, my memory of the latest update (other than Bella lol) is a bit foggy, but if it was indeed implied she is abused (mentally) by her mom then.......I do wonder if it would have been better if this would have been better if it was instead of verbal/psychological abuse that her mom put Zara through, that Zara's mom instead tried to do positive reinforcement, yet it's Zara herself who puts the pressure on herself because she doesn't want to disappoint her parents; not because she fears any abuse.

So all of it coming down to Zara just thinking "I gotta be the best" because her upbringing often was her parents drilling into her with "Zara, you will be the best if you put your mind to it." mentality.

it was a positive reinforcement. if she does good, she gets to ride in a car with mom. if she doesn't, she just needs to train a little more and she'll do better next time, walking home for several miles is a nice extra training

IMO - there are some good/great lewd scenes, for example:

* The 4sum with the MC, Mila, Vic and Nami was Very hot
* If you are on the Bella path, the MC making out with a topless Bella (and sleeping/cuddling with her is deeply satisfying from a relationship growth and couples intimacy perspective, IMO).

Season 1 builds the foundation of SG for us.

Season 2 will have far more than lewd scenes, but the sex scenes will be organic to the relationships built. By this, I think the MC will be able to have sex with LIs who he is on path with (Bella path for ex.) but not LIs who are still off path (like Sonya who is, I think, Very early in her LI path and we have no way to know when she and the MC will consummate any physical intimacy).

There is a crucial cabin trip that the MC and Amber will make that is key to upcoming sexy time. (IMO - this will happen fairly early in Season 2 and will be key to the MC beginning to overcome the psychological block the MC has to physical intimacy as well as helping him to begin to overcome his panic attacks.)

A. So - if you want a great story with amazing music and beautiful women - Summers Gone, Season 1 is an outstanding pick.

B. If you don't want to start a story until the MC can bed some number of women - SG Season 1 is not right for you - so I'd check back once CH 6/CH 7 is released (Season 2, SG).

SG Season 1 (CH 5 Full) will be out in the next month/2 months, so I recommend waiting for this release to get the best Summers Gone experience to date, if you opt for A above.

Regardless of your choice, please consider wishlisting Summers Gone on Steam - it costs nothing but will help with Steam metrics for placement when it is released on Steam.

The game will have sex scenes in Season 2 and onwards. But I am sure you can find other AVNs that are using the same models (differently edited/morphed of course) that are in this game, you just have to look for them.

If you want sex, there are tons of other games (or porn) out there for you to feast on.

Chapter 5's full is coming along well, and I've finished the most daunting scene. The Bella heist night from Chapter 2 is done.
Just to give you an idea of how much longer that scene is:

Old Chapter 2: 77 Renders

New Chapter 2: 234 renders

The heist night has tripled in size.

I'll add some comparisons here and there. (4K of all images attached.)

The heirloom Bella and the MC steal now have a separate scene too.

I'd say I'm about 65% done with the rework and around 600 renders in. I'm actually faster than I first anticipated. I did struggle a little with the heist scenes. I had to create so many new environments (Except the outside).

The only stuff that's still missing is the college Part in Chapter 2. I already finished the Bella end scenes (Previewed it in the last log.) and the beginning is also completely done.

I'd say around 500 renders more and it's done.

While I was scrolling through the old Chapters... I found this old Nightmare of a scene.

I remember said scene vividly... Before Chapter 3 was released, I completely re-did it because I couldn't render it properly and had to blur the shit out of it bc every character in the background was on the lowest res possible so I could render it. Still, this scene still features the shitty Mila model.

I'm redoing said scene and I'm almost done with it.

I had a pretty long call with my tax office.

I won't be able to buy as much music as I did in the past for quite some time if we ignore a potential Steam success.

The issue is that I have to write off music licenses over 10 years if they're over 500-800€. A lot of them are...

This means only a fraction of the music I paid for will be counted as a business expense for the upcoming years

It's ~0.83% per month that I can deduct. The rest of the money I already spent on licenses, I have to pay taxes on... Even though the money has already been spent on the game/business.

I won't have tax problems or something like that, but it fucks with my future music endeavors and I need to be much more careful. Don't expect a big collection of music at the beginning of Season 2.



And it wouldn't be a Season 2 Dev log without a Season 2 preview...

I'll be moving in a few days and I'll try to get everything done ASAP. I'll be one day without internet though.

WiAB's going to be out soon and I'm speedrunning the ~1100 renders for the Chapter 5 Full.

I might make some SG and WiAB Christmas treats. Maybe Bellchen and Katie together... I'll see where my inspiration takes me.

It is for almost everyone I've seen on Patreon and Subscribestar.

He also mentioned the following last year and I'm sure it will be a major expense this year as well - heating/electricity during the winter.

Speaking for myself, I understand if we are music lite for the early work on S2 for the above reasons.

I Am hoping for a good/great Steam release so that Ocean can lock down some great music for S2 (as well as add hardware where needed).
