Finally, I can present to you the latest update of
Victoria in Big City! Today marks exactly five years since the first release and nearly a year since the last update. Version 0.6 is already the 11th version—or rather,
only the 11th. I never imagined this project would last so long. And when I started working on this update, I didn’t think it would take an entire year.
That makes me even more grateful to everyone who has supported this project, who hasn’t lost faith, and who is still here. The long development time is largely my fault—bad decisions that I had to undo, along with factors beyond my control. I want to close this chapter and move forward with new energy, hoping for better times. This will allow me to deliver an even better game—and more importantly, in a shorter timeframe.
About the Update
This update is not a revolution, as I originally promised, but rather an evolution. During development, I had to change course after realizing I was heading in the wrong direction. But I believe we are now on the right path. Our small team has a solid plan, a strong foundation, and the necessary tools to work more efficiently. This groundwork took time and isn’t directly visible in the game, but I hope it will have a big impact on future updates.
Since this is an evolution, it will continue—some things are not yet finished, but I didn’t want to delay the release any further. However, many features are now complete and will no longer interfere with the story’s continuity.
Key Changes
- New refreshed menu and UI – I hope you’ll like it!
- Overhauled game structure – The game now offers more freedom and choices. Instead of just two main paths, there are now multiple intertwining ones, creating far more possibilities.
- Meaningful choices – Your decisions affect not only current events but also future ones and even the ending (which is still far away!).
- Updated point system – The three core variables remain, but choices now have a greater impact on the story. The secondary character point system has been removed to reflect the game’s expanded scale.
- More characters and storylines – When I first started, I envisioned a simple game with 3 or 4 paths and a few characters. Now, there are many more storylines and characters that influence Victoria, and this is just the beginning.
Because of these changes,
old saves may not work correctly or at all. I recommend starting fresh. I haven't provided pre-made saves at the end of the previous update because, with so many branching paths, I want you to decide how to play. That said, the "corruption" path is still similar to before, though some previously exclusive scenes are now accessible in other routes.
Technical & Future Plans
- Rewritten dialogues to reflect the new branching structure.
- New content and story progression – This update includes the largest amount of new renders and animations so far! But under ideal conditions, this amount of content should take 3–4 months to produce, not a year. That is my goal moving forward.
- What’s still missing? – The soundtrack is not yet ready, though some progress has been made. Other features, like a replay gallery, are planned for future updates.
