wtf is that about those "blockbuster" avn developers? Ocean, Pinkcake, Digi.B, they really drop the balls about release schedules and update times.
It seems like there is only Caribdis that does not fall into this kind of nonsense spiral
The "blockbuster" part is the issue I think.

I feel it's a mix of things. These projects are massive and far too ambitious for one person. They're usually using Ren'py and fucking Daz of all things. There's no real time pressure on a AVN dev because of how it's funded. They're their own boss which has upsides but also means they have no one to say maybe that's not worth it or let's do x instead. They're all choice driven which means they inevitably bloat after the early parts and each update grows bigger and bigger. The AVN audience WANTS big expansive, choice driven VNs with multiple women it's why they ever become "blockbusters".

So huge overly ambitious projects. With crap tools. No time pressure. No restraints. Audience desiring go big or go home. The project will expand considerably in workload as it goes on. It's a recipe for long dev times or burn out even presuming no milking shenanigans (and some are absolutely milking on top). I don't really see that situation changing unless AVN's become more constrained or the funding model changes to incentivize quicker updates over bigger ones.

It's almost as if they are regular people who haven't done this kind of thing before and may have overestimated how long things will take, go figure....

Google "sarcasm".......
Except they're not and you're being incredibly disingenuous, now aren't you? That's literally a list of some of the most successful devs in the space who have been doing it for YEARS. Who do you think you're helping? It's not yourself. It's not your fellow fans. Fuck, it's not even the devs themselves as this behavior WILL drive current and potential subs/customers away.

So you're being POSITIVE, YAY, just for the sake of being positive... despite the fact that doing so actively hurts everyone. Things don't get better by ignoring the flaws. Yes, it can get overly negative. Some times, it needs to. Often times communities like this become overly positive, right up to the point the dev is popping onto this forum for the first time in years to beg for money after their game collapsed due to locking themselves in an overly-positive echo chamber.

Some times saying, "This behavior is completely unacceptable," is as constructive as the criticism can get. And I'm more than happy to wait to provide further feedback. Yet I'm also just as fed up with overly-positive people attacking the people who are frustrated as those overly-positive people are with those complaining. One side is JUST AS BAD as the other. The fact that the community literally has nothing to talk about other than the delays, positive and negative, is a red flag unto itself.

I'd much rather be talking about how much I like Zelda's character or how human these characters actually are compared... anything except maybe Drifty's characters. Or about how ridiculous it is that some porn games are infinitely better written than movies, tv shows and other video games that have 9 figure budgets. We can't have those discussions though bc all any of us are thinking about is the delays, period, and it fucking sucks.

Since when do you get to tell an artist how to create their art. Either enjoy it or do something else. There's no shortage of AVNs available.
Since the beginning of civilization. That's why there are entire industries which exist purely to do precisely that. Hell, there are even internal employees hired by the artists themselves that exist to prevent scope bloat. When you commission a piece of art, be it a painting or anything else, you are doing precisely what you're trying to allude doesn't happen. You're being fucking delusional, man.

This was a VERY BIG problem in early game development and it's why publishers are so heavy-handed today. It's why almost every Kickstarter game ever has utterly fucking failed. It's why a game like Star Citizen has cost more than almost the next 5 most expensive games ever made - combined.

First of all, that's an impressive amount of OPINION you have there!

Second, I'm not positive for the sake of being positive, I'm positive because I don't spend time on an Internet forum complaining about things I have no control over (or in most cases get for free)

There was an explicit date 24 Dec Christmas. I expected a delay but not a 1/4 of a year delay. Maybe i just had to much faith in digi.b of actually fulfilling what he said himself. If i was just pirated the game i probably would not give to much of fuck. I did cancel my pledge and will wait here for the update

From Digi.B's update of Sept 9, 25 ................ So, I'm estimating a Christmas release this year. I don't like projecting dates. As I've said before, it frustrates people (including myself) when a deadline is missed. So I try not to mention unless I'm sure of the date and I'll be doing my very best to try and make this a Christmas release. ................
So, you will notice the words ""estimating a Christmas release and I don't like projecting dates, along with, So I try not to mention unless I'm sure of the date" That being said, I would like to know where he said, "There was an explicit date 24 Dec Christmas ??."
It appears he stepped out of his comfort zone and estimated a date to try and appease all the asses that were complaining on a daily basis. So while I feel your pain do everyone a favor and STFU. It will be done when it is done.

This is not a professional game by a AAA studio. This is a mostly one-man hobby passion project that is a billion times better than most AVNs, commercial or otherwise. This is more art than a commercial product, and yes, there's less control over the work and scope than in those. I have no complaints about the results, other than I wish they came faster. I don't believe that I or anyone else has the right to hold DigiB accountable, as it is his.

Also: there is no such thing as "scope bloat." There's bloat, generally referring to unnecessary software added to a commercial PC, and "scope creep," which is moving goalposts on projects which endangers projects meeting milestones, and eventually dooming them to fail.

There are no official milestones other than releases with Artemis, and he can't miss those milestones because he doesn't set time limits.

on another note. I really love this AVN, it is so lifelike with its own character and personalities. Its almost like watching a movie, almost every single "image" is animated, the story is top notch, with humor, drama, sadness and so much more emotions i cant even describe :D
I am not one who gets emotional quickly, but at this AVN I laughed my ass off and also shed some tears, because its so well written and you can empathize with it.

The only thing i find sad are the "crossroads" where you have to decide between some character -not because i want them all (ok maybe that too) but more because of the different story -outcome, experience, possibilities, scenes.

1.for example, the first crossroad between Zoe and Katy -
of course i am going with sweet sweet Katy, not for the scene but because i like her sweetness. and while she also mention something similar about Jules- i would also like the opportunity to have a chat with Zoe to find out that Jules bought the perfume with her and talks very fondly about us. it is heartwarming

2.the next "major crossrad" was the date with Zelda or Katy -
now it was harder for me to decide because i like them both but i am going with Katy, this time for the scene (the happy ending) and her blushing  :D - but i would also like to "bond" with Zelda, hear about the fact with the contract and have the possibility to video chat her before - i hatefuck Cassy and then dump her in the next dumpster

3.and then the halloween party...
of course i go with the KinKiss, because who would miss such an opportunity? :D and the scene is just too good also with the reaction from Lexi :D.. buuut this locks you out of a possible Zelda route..

4.and the last major choice was: staying with sweet Artemis and Kindra, or going to "bond" with Naomi. -
of course i am going to stay with Kindra and Artemis, to spend more time with them, to teach Artemis and because the scene was just too sweet, cute, funny, lovely, (and sex :D) and especially bath time :D -
but i would also like to have the "chance" even if it is a small chance.. but the possibility that Naomi can restore the data on the phone is something i really would like to have.. even if digi decide against it and tells the story that she couldnt restore it but its still something important.
