Public post

Today I've posted the links for 0.8.5 to my $20+ subscribers, which means they will be made public on January 24th. You all should know what's in there (mainly the reworked quests and the VN mode) so I won't waste your time explaining it again. Instead I want to share the plans for 0.9

First of all, this update is going to be big. I don't mean it just in terms of scenes and new events, what I'm saying is that it will be big in terms of story progression, new paths, etc.

Up until now, you had two paths to follow - the 'Alpha' where you accepted Eric coming over and his relationship with Ann and the 'Omega' where everything that happened between them was off-screen. 0.9 will change that - those two paths will merge and you'll be presented with a choice either to side with Eric (the 'friends' path) or openly oppose him (the 'enemy' path). For those of you that played the original version, this is the moment where you start working towards getting rid of him. It's way too early for that, but I can say that in BBIS "getting rid of him" won't necessarily mean that he'll disappear. There will be an option to keep him, but as I said it's way too early to talk about that.

So what is different on the friend/enemy path compared to the alpha/omega?

First of all, as you know if you are on the omega path Ann is away a few days of the week. On the enemy path during one of those days Karen will be coming over to keep an eye on Alice and encourage her streaming business. On the 'friend' path Eric will still be coming over and you'll progress in the events that you got a taste of in the 'alpha' path. In a nutshell friend/enemy is an overcharged version of alpha/omega. Plus you'll be able to switch the path, so even if you chose "alpha" before, this doesn't mean you need to stay on the "friend" path in 0.9. I'm still considering if I should add a 'bad' ending for the enemy path. The thing is that I want to avoid the grind that's associated with the original game, so I don't want to add the game mechanics where you need to repeat events with the girls just to keep them happy so you don't get shipped to military school.

In Kira's quest you'll learn how Eric got the job of the station administrator and this is the start of one of the routes to get rid of him eventually. As for the scenes in this quest planned for 0.9, it will be Kira + Zenta there.

And one last thing - 0.9 will progress one of the very first events in BBIS - the punishments. Ann will decide to give you some responsibilities and it will be you who will be punishing Lisa and Alice and also Ann will be giving you "private" punishments in her room after breakfast.

As for estimated timeline for the 0.9 release... I can't tell anything yet. I'm currently writing dialogue, so I don't even know how many renders I'll have to do just for the story (and with the scenes it works the other way around - first I make the renders/animations and then write the dialogue), plus I'll have quite a lot of work for the new and the extended repeatable events. Also since that will be the first update after the rework of the game framework, I may have to spend some time fixing issues in the upgrade script. I want to say something like mid-March, but please don't take that as a promise. The only thing that I can promise right now is that I'll try to get it done ASAP and I'll provide regular updates on my progress (trying not to give too many spoilers of course).

A frustrating game.

95% of this game is just to click on different areas in hope for new scenes.

The game works pretty much like this:
  • You've got 7 different locations that you can click on. The usual stuff... The bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, pool, etc.
  • The game shows you which characters are in which location.
  • You click on a location with a character in it, and you MIGHT be able to engage with this/these characters, but often there's just a static character there that you can't engage with AT ALL.
  • Often, at a given time of day, there are no characters to interact with, so you skip one hour ahead and check the different locations. And if you're lucky you might be able to interact with the character and watch a scene....HOWEVER, you're probably not THAT lucky because there's a very high chance that you've already seen it before.
So, in summary, the rhythm of this game is to:
  • Click on locations with characters in them.
  • See stuff you've already seen.
  • Progress time.
  • Click on locations with characters in them,
  • See stuff you've already seen.
  • And so on....
  • Every once in a while a scene will be somewhat altered, or you'll get a completely new scene. But this is after wasting a WHOLE LOT OF TIME!
A very easy fix would have been for the devs to:
  1. Only show us the location of characters we can interact with.
  2. Colour-code locations with unseen scenes or scenes with updates to them.
_____
The above I also posted as a review.
I'd like to add that the closest thing to this that I've played are games by CeLaVie. Like My Early Life. It's got some of the same things going for it. Like having to click on location after location, but it's somehow more exciting. There's no locations with static girls that you can't interact with. And progression feels a lot more smooth. Idk... I'll not go on about it, I just think the dev of this game should check out CeLaVie and get a few good ideas on improvement. And I think that BOTH DEVS should take my point #2 above, to colour-code locations with unseen scenes or updated scenes.

You know there's a quest log, right? It tells you exactly what to do if you bother to click on it...

I do agree that having a marker for unseen scenes would be a good QoL feature but it would have been good to at least know what you are talking about before going on a long rant lol

You mean this thing?

Not great tho... Says nothing about the when and where of the quests.
I think all my points stands regardless of this "quest log".

TIERS:
$5, $10, $20, $35

I know I'm supposed to release the links for the public access to 0.8.5 tomorrow, but because of stuff happening at my day job, I'm likely to be busy and there is a not-so-slight chance I forget, so I decided it won't hurt anyone if I post them a day early.

Just keep in mind you either need to load a complete save from 0.8.0 or start a new game in order for the new quests to be properly migrated. Also if you want to play in the newly added VN mode, you have to start a new game. There is no way to switch between game modes mid-play. Once all the current content in the game is over in the VN mode, it will fallback to the usual sandbox. You can save your progress in both the VN play or after it's over, the game will remember your choice and once I release the next version, it will pick you from where you left and continue in the VN mode (until of course the new content is over and falls back to the sandbox mode again).

0.8.5 does not add new story progression in the game, but it does add a few repeatable events like the blackjack game with Olivia and Lisa, the evening TV event with Alice is extended to include the scenes in 0.8.0, her blog events as well include the masturbation and the handjob choices and also you get the night events with Olivia and Lisa depending on who lost the blackjack game and has to sleep naked.

Anyway, here are the links:

Change log:
- complete rework of the opportunities to new character quests
- added a VN mode
- fixed a few bugs
- added/extended some of the repeatable events to reflect the story progression in 0.8.0
