Why isn't anyone asking the most important question? How is any of what we accomplished in this part going to transfer over to the next part?

I haven't complained about this particular developer being slow but I ABSOLUTELY will continue to complain about the fact most of the visual novels are now only updating every 8 months to a year. This is goddamn ridiculous and the market is going to eventually crumble due to all the feet dragging and milking (and general oversaturation along with the issue of most projects ending up abandoned even more often nowadays).
Among the first games I played when I arrived in the forum were insexsity and simbro. Nice little games indeed and they updated quickly. Are you trying to compare the quality of those games to the quality of current games?

I don't think it was an unjustified question. Even if the update has just literally dropped, that sort of thing is something any dev should think about beforehand.
Imagine making everyone replay a game from the beginning that they just finished because you didn't think of a way of exporting their saves to the next season when the last version was released. Real lovers of this game will have no problem doing it, but the bulk of the player base will groan and roll their eyes.
Now, my guess is the dev may implement the typical "Before we start, tell me what you chose in Season 1" system.

Maybe exporting won't even be needed? He simplifying his code...not doing a DPC....might just be a few questions in the sequel, love or corrupt Meredith for example.

If people (stupid on this site I realise) had a bit oif fecking patience I'm sure the dev will explain on his channels in due time. That he hasn't already....

There's a multitude of games out there that import a save from a first "season". It's far from insurmountable.

Why? I don't see anything serious in this, not to mention that season 2 hasn't even come out yet and we don't know the point.

You can either expect export as it happens with some games or customize it to your liking like "love path or corruption path" and who you dated in season 1 and what girls you refused... I think it's simple, just give the developer time

Clarification

"To clear up any confusion, regarding the next season/sequel:

At the current pace and how overwhelmingly shoot-focused the releases are, the story progresses too slowly. It took two years of development time to finish Meredith's arc, how much longer must it take to complete the rest of the story?

For us to have a shot at finishing the project, I must impose a few changes to speed things up so I can finish the project in a reasonable time-frame. At this rate, it can easily take up more than a decade.

A sequel, instead of a continued release, is a better approach for multiple reasons:

1. Reduce file-size bloat. Now it's approaching 8 GB, and I'm constantly having to re-upload files because it just. keeps. failing. There are methods to alleviate file size problems, but I'd still like to post a version without any compression.

2. Reduced Variable bloat. There are a lot of variables in Game of Hearts, and not all of them are relevant for future releases. A fresh state keeps things cleaner, and I plan to use different methods of recalling choices and character states in the future. The internals of Game of Hearts are cumbersome to navigate, file names(music, images, and animations) are difficult to keep track of and recognize.

3. A different vision of how the renders will be presented. It no longer matches my past renders and presentation.

4. UI and Font changes.

The sequel is a continuation of Game of Hearts. It moves a bit faster and contains a more varied cast of characters and situations, with an updated look and UI while keeping file size reasonable to an extent.

Again, I must repeat:

There will be new married/romantically involved people to deal with.

All the characters from Game of Hearts will also be present, although they will have to take a step back to allow the new characters space to shine."

Exactly, that's what I mentioned right at the end of my message. With that method he won't need to export any variables to the sequel.
But in any case, I'm sure that's something the dev must have thought about already.

This game is a masterclass
It may have taken 2 years to finish Meredith's arc but the fact that the game actually finished with very little story degradation and it felt just as good as day one is unbelievable.
Given that the unfortunate reality of game Development means you get an abandoned game entirely instead of a finished product, or even a "reboot before we even finish the story only to abandon it anyways"
I was invested in both Meredith and Maxime from the jump and that last section with Julia while we did not appear to have had as flushed out scenes with her in this season, that last section kept me invested in her arc.

I guess my point is I am invested in all of the current ladies and want to continue all the stories.

A masterclass

I don't know the first thing about developing a game, so as far as timelines go have no clue what it takes to finish one or update one. but most of the games that are top tier animations story and that tick most boxes are that long in the cycle. Given that from my own knowledge of developers I follow very few do this as a full time job. So perhaps this is also why it takes so long.

And if there is any developer that ends up going the route of "ok I'll put out shorter update schedules just to give you guys more" end up abandoning the project entirely or rebooting what's already there and then abandoning. so it is a double edge sword it seems

While I'd agree many milk supporters with very little payoff this Developer is not one- also to add I'd hazard to say you don't complain about this developer being slow because while they are slow every update has been prime content.
If they make you wait a year and a half for six renders and an animation then that's an issue

How emotionally difficult it was for me at the end to read this whole story ..... I should have put a warning for sensitive people… or I had to sob reading this.  ..... Really one of the best games on the site for me.
