Honestly Grindy is a part of a vn but that depends how it is. Just as example, sone games are like, for getting the next scene on a particular character you have to "level up" or "increase charm" or "read books" etc and ultimately after that much grind you will getting the scene and for me it's not bad because there was some hints on that. But some games are like, you like the renders so much that you want to unlock some scenes on a particular character but there is no hints, you don't have any fucking idea, and you searching everything frustratingly. If this is the situation i would say dev is taking advantage on your patience and i hate that.
Imo, the stupidiest thing about it it's disconnect from the story. You can already fuck them in every possible pose in the story, but in this scenes it's dosnt matter, they still will be behave themself like nothing happened. The best course of action will be connect the affection metter to a story progression

This hopefully is like some of the good games. You waited and waited and waited, but when it came...it was one hell of a night. But, was all the grind to get there enjoyable? No. Or, maybe they will remove the absolutely pointless and annoying brother from the game.
