Status Update #29

Hello, everyone!

We continued with a lot of scripting and writing this week. Robison has been fixing a ton of grammar mistakes and polishing the dialogue in the earlier scenes into its final form. Meanwhile, the render grind continued on a couple of the girls' scenes, mainly Sophie's and Bree's. One of them has a pretty hefty scene coming up, hope you'll like it.

We've also been going over the scope of 0.6 Freeplay. We have a habit of changing some events around, and one example would be the 0.5 evening content, which was originally planned to be in the form of Freeplay. We're going to stick to our original plans this time, since we always regret changing things afterwards.

Weekly summary:

80 new renders

Scripting

Coding Freeplay

Working on extras

A lot of SFX

Design workbench

This week we also have a couple of pictures from our mini-game that Robison has been working on in his basement. The dress up simulator, or whatever the name will end up being. It will be a small part of Freeplay through Player's laptop and adds a little bit extra to the Freeplays. There are different outfits, colors, hairstyles, and a hint of bare skin. Some ladies might be completely nude as well.

We'll see how much we improve or add to it in the future. It's still a work in progress. But boring talk aside, here are some pictures with Sophie as your model, as well as a special guest of honor.

All of the devs are earning a lot of money doing a poor content, they cant take more than 5 months for an update. Just they dont want to do it, they earn more money like this than updating each 2-3 months.
Sorry but is the truth, I wont pay more for any dev.

Isnt 80 renders a week having two people, two render rigs extremely slow? Like for months now its still the same average render count, how is it possible that they're not improving in this matter?

It's slow if you compare it to a honey select game probably? But given the quality and care here it's probably as fast as they can? But who knows. Also being two devs doesn’t mean they both do the renders. They are other things to do: writing, coding, sounds, music, mini games, UI, ect

I don't know of any VN where improving development tools increases production speed; developers prefer to increase the quality of each render or increase the number of characters that appear at once.

It would be nice if Sophie with her long hair appeared in the story.

That's such a low bar for comparison, why even start there? That basically validates your own argument without any actual argument.
Summer heat should be held to its own standard, currently it feels like its not. Now im no dev obviously and maybe northpx is burning all the midnight oil but it sure doesn't feel like that to the eye test. I get that all these other side stuff they are working on are important to the game, the small 'battles' if you would. The last update was that disappointing one on Aug 23 2024 and its been about half a year since, nothing too crazy or red flag-ish as far as VNs go but it sure doesn't feel like a good pace with each status update.

I was giving the example of honey select games because it's obviously way faster and the guy was saying "extremely slow" which imo if i was to compare to other daze wouldn't be that slow or certainly not "extremely" anyway. I'm not sure it make sense but i hope you get what i'm trying to say. It's that i kinda disagree with him, yes slow but actually it's fine, given the quality, efforts and photography put into it.

The last update was that disappointing one
If what disappointed you was the fact that it was a bit short it shouldn't be a problem/worry for the next update. We are already over 2350 renders made right now, compared to the 1800 of 0.6. If you think 80 a week a extremely slow imagine that last update they were below or around 40 a week probably. So i think they are doing pretty good. And they are gonna continue to make more for a couples of more months.

nothing too crazy or red flag-ish as far as VNs
There are no reasons for any red flags imo. As long as they show that they are working and keep their communication as good as it is right know, i think it's all good (whether you think it's slow or not)

it sure doesn't feel like a good pace with each status update.
They are consistent and imo it's the most important.

Judging from their recent update logs, I'm seeing around 200 renders a week for Law School and 300 a week for Tides of Succession, both solo devs and I would say LS is equal and Tides maybe a fraction below the visual quality here.

There's so much more that comes into it though, of course, like the stuff you mention at the end there. People have different workflows and different lives, so it's impossible to accurately compare the development of two different games from different devs.

I'm downloading LS right now. And i will get back to you on that, once i see it. So far every times someone said a game looks as good a SH it turn out to not be the case (to me at least). I'll see^^

Of course, there will also always be peoples/devs faster than other too, no matter what. There are always someone somewhere who is better than you, right? It's true for everything.

LS dev is also more experienced, he have completed a game before. When you see the differences between the first and the second AVN of some devs you can tell how much it matter ( CF for example: DPC, Caribdis: the gap between their respective first game and they current one is huge, colossal even)

Something that can influence a lot too is how much work they put into assets and models. Do the devs just grab existent ones? Are they using them as it? Or are they putting work into customising them? Or maybe they created assets and models entirely themself? A lot of DAZ dev just re-use assets and models. SH probably too but they have shown that they like to create a lot by themself and modify heavily existent ones. To what extent i can't tell ofc but i feel like they do it quite a lot. When i play SH i never get, the well known feeling of "I have seen this models/assets hundreds of times in 50 others AVN".

But idk maybe i'm just blinded by a mild case of fanboysme, probably on final stage too lmao

Don't listen to me too much, i'm just a old man :(
