the update will be a lot closer to 0.5 in terms of content than 0.6. It will be out next year though.
So this:
We also locked on a decision to backpedal on our plans regarding update sizes and return to something reminiscent of the smaller early updates. We can now say that we've tried bigger updates and it doesn't feel we've found the right balance yet. So we're changing our approach. Instead of having a specific ending that we're working towards, we'll do what we did in the beginning: end when there is roughly a chapter's worth of content. Like in a normal book.
Meant literally nothing in the end? Just like the "0.6 will take 3-4 months" again:(

My dear friend, you probably already know how visual novels focused on good graphics work these years, you shouldn't take what the developers say literally, especially if the project already had 6 updates and they already said they are bad with their estimates, don't expect version 0.7 to come out before September 2025, that way you won't be disappointed, try other stories in the meantime, it's December and there are a lot of them coming out, come back here on Fridays in case you want to see the dev logs or some special monthly image (they also said those special images took up development time and that's why they weren't going to make more but that idea only lasted 1 month, I guess patreons like it and money is the one who sets the course here), there are years left to see the kind of action people expect besides character development, you must find the balance between patience and disinterest, that way you won't even realize how many months the update has been in development and when you realize it, 0.7 will have already come out. :D

I was personally okay going forward with smaller updates, but I'm sure you saw how 0.6 went. Especially here on F95. I think we're in the vast minority when it comes to small update preference... The question of future update lengths was in the 0.6 survey but we omitted it for obvious reasons. We'll have it up for consideration again after this one, but currently it would've probably just resulted in more dissatisfaction if we went ahead with the smaller ones, despite more frequent updates.

I mean technically, we could be working on 0.9 already if the old 650'ish was a goal. But would that be better though? It might be more ideal for us to have frequent updates, but not as much for the general player experience. Opinions are welcome. The 3-4 month guess by Rob during 0.6 is something that I'd want to strive for but I'm not going to promise or estimate anything like that until I know I can deliver on it.

"They also said those special images took up development time and that's why they weren't going to make more but that idea only lasted 1 month"
They were just paused for about 3 months like originally stated, not counting any of the other ones of course. :BootyTime:

I ain't gonna defend their blunders
It happens. Wish it didn't but sometimes it just do be like that.

I mean, they definitely did raise brows, but that's irrelevant.

Awww so you all for the player experience, how sweet of you... nice way of ending the year with this statement...:sick:Wasn't you guys the ones who said some time ago that if you hit 700 or 1000 patreons goal updates will "fly" left and right from how fast you'll release them, over 3k patreons now, go figure nothing has changed in fact is the opposite...

Yes, i saw it and was clear the whole disappointment and backlash came from the fact you took 10 MONTHS to release a update 50% smaller than 0.5 that took 11 months. Maybe, just maybe if 0.6 with its 1800 renders were release in 3-4 months like you guys told will be, the reception won't be so negative. Of course there will be negative reactions because none update of any game will ever get only praise (especially here on this site) but certainly not as bad as it was since people weren't build such high and unrealistic expectations for a "small" and quick update (they do this with longer development times updates) and with way more positive too for not take almost another year again for just 1 update.
Anyway, at the end the is your choice only. It's just ironic see so much of "let dev develop the game the way they planned and want" but when a dev plan and want release small frequent updates (like you said right now) this quickly change to "no, no, no, we want big and longer updates, develop the game the way we want, not you". I already talk my opinion about how small frequent releases can suit to any type of player and be better to developers and i'm sincerely tired of repeat myself over and over again. It's clear you guys won't release more than one update per year like you did in the first year of SH ever again and even 1 release per year will soon to be a strike of luck when the branching of the story increase (yeah such amazing general player experience this will be). So, just good luck with another +10 months dev cycle and hope this big 0.7 bring big and S-tiers sex scenes with Bree, Eve, Sophie and Ms Hill together with tons of character, story and relationship development since these are the expectations of big updates with longer development times. I'm out.

You're never going to please everyone, so ignore the bitchers and whiners. They're literally the last people you should listen to. They will always throw a fit no matter what you do so just release the update when you're happy with it and tell the haters to fuck off. It doesn't matter if it's a shorter update or not.

Smaller or bigger updates.... it doesn't change anything, this debate is useless. At the end the number of renders "per year" is the same, whether you release them in 2 or 3 smaller updates or all at once in a bigger one. And since bigger is more enjoyable to play there is no reasons to fragment it ever. The end.

The only thing that can be added to this is that updates need to have measurable progress regardless of size. The 0.6 update saw little plot progression and limited LI relationship advancement, so the update would have felt underwhelming even if it came out in half the time.

This is a very good approach, if the 0.6 update had 7000 renders but ended at the same time in the school, and those 5400 extra renders were only used for new angles of the same scenes, the update would still be bad for most people.

I will always prefer updates of 3 or 4 months, even if it is cut off abruptly. People who want something bigger just have to wait for a year to pass and play all the new content at once, but it's just my way of seeing things so that most people are satisfied, although it is impossible to satisfy to everyone, no matter what they do. Well... if 0.7 had good scenes with all the protagonists... I don't think anyone would criticize, but it would be burning all the cards in a single play.

Happy new year!.

Not every LI needs to have substantial progress in every update, but there needs to be enough for those that are only interested in one LI to be invested in the plot. In 0.6, nothing of note happens plotwise and our low-energy MC needs to take a nap. Not the proverbial page turner ...

Now you made me think, how long did MC sleep on night 1?. He is a young guy, in a place that is not his home, on his first day surrounded by supermodels, who would be sleepy in that situation?. And it's not worth saying that he had sex 3 times because maybe you're going down a path where the only sexual thing MC thinks about is giving Eve a super explosion all over her face and ruining her gothic makeup.
The famous horror tag was perhaps because our MC has some illness that makes him very sleepy even if he is in paradise.
