Stay Online by LadyLana
I’ve been playing this one for a while (since 0.3, I think) and thought it was about time I reviewed it. I don’t play phone-based games, and while I’d say that’s for story reasons, it’s also because they are all AI, real porn, or 2DCG games. Having played Stay Online though, I’d go so far as to say that it is unique (until someone proves me wrong) in that it’s a phone-based game that uses 3DCG renders – and they’re also really good ones.
Yes, most of the game is text-message based, but there are photos and video calls too, and then the other thing that this game does well – hidden cameras, with sound (from 0.5 onwards, I think). The game does follow a tried and tested formula (husband is away long-term, wife is left at home and has to fend off (or not) the attentions of various men), but it does it in a way that feels a bit different. It’s not necessarily a fresh approach, but together with the renders, it definitely feels like Stay Online is a good step ahead of most (all?) of the other cheating/NTR phone-based games I’ve seen (after playing this, I have tested a few for comparison, just so I can feel comfortable in saying what I’m saying here).
The gameplay is pretty good, it’s mostly linear but there are a few choices, and a couple of “major” choices help to send you down a handful of different paths. There is the “loyal” path, where your loving wife Julia stays true to you; a “cuck” path and a “sharing” path, which admittedly feel very similar, but feature her gradually going further with teasing a male house guest and showing that off to you; and a “cheating” path, where she says she is staying true to you, but in actual fact is going against some of what you say, and more importantly, getting involved with the house guest “behind your back” – of course, the hidden cameras mean it’s not really behind your back, however.
Because the updates are monthly, there’s not necessarily a lot of content each time, but over several paths, it gives enough to keep you going, and the updates are getting hotter as the relationship develops and (potentially) Julia gets closer to being caught. You also get the opportunity to spy on Julia’s best friend as she stays over in the early parts of the game. From the game thread, I’d say a lot of people don’t like this friend, Vika, but she is quite important at getting the story going and driving it to the first couple of stops on the journey.
For a short game, I really enjoy playing this one each month, it acts almost like a palate cleanser for me between the bigger updates and testing out new games. It’s definitely one that I recommend if the subject matter is your thing, even if, like me, you don’t usually play phone-based games.
