It was never done before. What you're thinking of as "done" was a small village made on a beach, and it was an example map, not a final map. The dev also didn't like the old map, so a new map was made, which as a result means they scrapped the old stuff. All the old stuff from the UE4 versions, except that map, were brought to the UE5 version.
all that is just an example map? darn....

I've made a couple posts in here being very critical of the development prioritization in the past but it does appears the RPG elements are finally beginning to be implemented and in a coherent manner. It gives me some hope that this won't just stay strictly a giant sandbox milking subs with "added X new animations!" each patch and we might actually see a pretty decent game being built.

So, I've looked over the last 1-2 years of changelogs and read the last couple of pages on here. I even watched an official youtube video from the dev where people in the comments raised similar questions like mine.

[EDIT] I found another creator showcasing the game here:

But as far as I can tell, this "game" is still just a glorified posing, character and sex scene simulator with modding, animation and sandbox addons. Only now in the latest, shiny UE 5. In fact, they even scrapped content when they decided to redo the entire map or something?

But supposedly that's what the patreons and the users want instead of a conventional full game? You know, with characters, stories, quests or even gameplay. As I see it, they basically developed a toolset for modders in UE 5. Until now at least.

Anyway, I decided to go back to my comment over 5(!!!) years ago and I'm just leaving this here and tagging a couple of people who where angry back then and didn't agree or were making excuses for the poor devs. I still stand by my opinion, but I want to add, that appearantly we all just had or still have different expectations what this "game" actually is supposed to be. Furthermore, Cyberpunk 2 which I mentioned in my old post is already officially in development!

I guess, we'll see if my predictions hold true in the next 5 years.

I'll leave this little statistics here as well: So they were / are making around 1 Mio $ per year since 2019 for a sophisticated UE5 modkit. And this also doesn't factor in the steam sales of course. Remember this has been in development for a total of 8(?) years by now.

So let me get this straight. Despite there having been a global pandemic that meant the dev team had to work remotely which slowed down development, despite all the showcases of recent work being done, despite the times that AdeptusSteve has said and reiterated that they're not going to ship the final story part of the game until it's done, and despite the fact that the money made from the Patreon is going towards paying the dev team and not just a single person, then it means this game and the devs deserve any hate and the unreasonable criticisms that people have brought against them? Not to mention that of course Cyberpunk 2 is now in development because Projekt Red is actually a massive studio with way more funding and resources and more people and had the first game be successful enough to warrant a sequel.

And wow, 8 years of development? Some AAA games spent that long too, like remember how long Cyberpunk 2077 was in development for example. Another game I've brought up before, Kenshi, started development around 2008 and didn't get it's 1.0 release until 2019/2020 which is a little longer than 8 years, and also had even fewer people working on it than are working on Wild Life.

I'm not saying you can't critique the game or be upset at how long it's taking to finish, but using it to say the devs and game suck and calling them milkers, or just shitting on the game without offering suggestions of how to fix the problem, you've gone past the point where it can be considered critique, and you should probably just forget about the game if you really have so many issues with it and its development and the devs.

What's the purpose of pinging people that disagreed with you 5 years ago? I'm surprised you're even still looking at this game 5 years later if you hate the direction it's going so much. Maybe take that energy and put it somewhere productive - like making your own game in the fashion that you want, or seeking out other games that provide what you want.

Yes. But the pandemic only lasted for about 2 years and is officially over for close to 3 years now. Also you can't tell me, that a small studio with 10 or 20 people would have had problems to still work on that game. I don't buy that. And even remote work shouldn't have been a big problem for such a small company. It was 2020-2021 and not 1999. It's probably way more complicated to get remote work going in a big company with all the rules and bureaucracy and whatnot, although I can't say for sure.

despite all the showcases of recent work being done
Yes.

despite the times that AdeptusSteve has said and reiterated that they're not going to ship the final story part of the game until it's done
Yes. You can work on multiple areas at once when developing a game, you know. It's also not only about the story. Apart from the sandbox, poser, animation and characters stuff there is basically no content. Just watch the video I linked and how unfinished everything is. There are so many textures, props and assets missing (Water had no physics). The world is very big, generic and empty. Actually, this may rather be a sign of mismanagement.

and despite the fact that the money made from the Patreon is going towards paying the dev team and not just a single person
I know it's not only one person. I did not even claim that. My guess is maybe 10-20 people? That's how many can probably live off of 1 Mio $ per year. More if you're frugal and less if you're not. On the other hand I'm wondering what all these people are doing, when you look at my examples below...

then it means this game and the devs deserve any hate and the unreasonable criticisms that people have brought against them?
There is absolutely nothing unreasonable about it. 8 years, a small group of people and 6+ Mio. $ budget and it's not even a custom engine and we have nothing but a high quality sandbox toolkit for UE5 to build your own sex scenes. It's really hard to tell, if it's mismanagement at this point (like stated above) or strategy to milk patreons for a longer period of time.

Just to set this into perspective: Have you ever heard of the following projects, mods and games? I'd argue the dev size is similar or even smaller, but effectively accomplished a lot more!

[EDIT] Fallout London is a bad example as I noticed there were 100 modders and 100 voice actors involved. Although probably no money and only spare time instead of full time, so there is that.

Look them up, if you don't know them.

True. But I never expected a Cyberpunk AAA game. Of couse, they can't compete with them. Also we all know that Cyberpunk was a mess at release, despite its 260 Mio $ budget.

Another game I've brought up before, Kenshi, started development around 2008 and didn't get it's 1.0 release until 2019/2020 which is a little longer than 8 years, and also had even fewer people working on it than are working on Wild Life.
I don't know that game, but what little I just looked up on reddit, it seems the game was made by a single person only in his spare time and without any sort of crowdfunding. I also read mixed opinions on this game and the dev's work mentality which sounds a bit all over the place without reliable progress (sound familiar?). Seemingly, Kenshi 2 has been in development for a couple of years already. At least he doesn't ask for patreon money, because his first game made enough...

Anyway, with Wild Life it's different, since several people have been working for at least 6 years full time on that game with a large enough budget. Also see my other examples above to set the dev output in relation to other projects and their ressources! See the difference??

I'm not saying you can't critique the game or be upset at how long it's taking to finish, but using it to say the devs and game suck and calling them milkers, or just shitting on the game without offering suggestions of how to fix the problem, you've gone past the point where it can be considered critique, and you should probably just forget about the game if you really have so many issues with it and its development and the devs.
The only reason I visited this thread again is to see if anything worthwhile has happened AT ALL. Because every 1 or 2 years I remember this game... then I come back 5 fucking years later, the game has barely progessed and people still keep defending it as if it's their baby and throwing a ton of money at it. As I said in my earlier post: I can only assume that most customers are happy about what they got so far, which is -and I repeat again- a sophisticated sandbox modding kit for UE4/5 to build your own sex scenes. That's it. That's the game. If you are one of them. More power to you.

And yes I'm very disappointed, because while the Sandbox mode is in their description, it's basically the only thing working and if you set it in context with the rest of the intended features, it's maybe somewhere between 30-40 % complete... after 8 years... maybe...

Here is the full description in case anyone forgot about what they promise:

I'm fed up with this overpromising and then underdelivering Patreon bullshit business model. Some other prominent examples: Eromancer with Malice and the Machine and that Onyx game, Cushstation with Female Agent who has not released anything in a couple of years I believe or Splendid Ostrich with Newlife where he releases an update whenever he pleases. These are just 3 examples of people who live a happy life with Patreon money without working for it. And there are probably countless others which I don't even know. Adeptus Steve is not quite that level of audacity, but the line is already thin...

I mainly wanna open eyes really. But people don't seem to care either way, even if you explain it in detail. Also I can criticise shitty business practises without making my own game. That's the funny part: I have already found other games, but I still decided to post here to prevent more people from losing money for no equivalent value.

While we're at it: Star Citizen. Same BS. Started in 2012/2013 raised almost 800 Mio $ until today and still alpha or something. But they keep getting away with it, it's ridiculous. Granted this game probably already has a shit ton of content (haven't looked into it). However, the Single Player campaign which was promised (let me look) 12 freaking years ago is only set for release in 2026... Bullshit business model and you know exactly why they do it: because they can extract more money from naive customers that way. See screenshot below.

So you're just gonna be another one of the people hating on this game because you didn't get what you want, and it didn't get developed the way you expected, going through all this trouble to make a response? Great, I'll just ignore you then. People's eyes are open, they can see what's going on just fine, and they see that there's still something worth supporting and waiting to see the results.

If you truly have such monumental complaints to go through all this work you put into your reply, then tell the fucking developers instead of getting on people on the pirating site who aren't even paying for it if you want to open someone's eyes. Like goddamn.

I, on the other hand, don't care about some another ero pseudo RPG with cringe dialogues.
For me, Wild Life is above all great tools for creating your own animations and games, and in this regard, each subsequent build provides new very useful tools.

Despite the fact that they claim otherwise, this thread has some very vocal and very much monthly paying people. Based on their posts, I'm 100% sure about this.

Not to mention no person who has even a little bit of common sense would defend 8+ years of "development" that STILL barely qualifies as a game, nevermind the fact that DEVELOPER himself claims this is "an open world adult role playing game".

8+ years and:
  • "open world" isn't there,
  • "role playing" isn't there,
  • "game" isn't there.
  • 8+ years of "development" and there is ONLY "adult" part.

Where is the open world?
Where is the role playing?
Where is the game?

Out of all the words you use to describe this game("open world adult role playing game") in 8+ years you've only managed to make the "adult" part. 8+ years and the promised game is still only ~25% done. Since you set release date as 2027 I have to ask, what makes you think you'll be able to finish the rest of this game(~75% of it) just in two years? Or is it another promise that you don't intend on keeping, just like in the past?
