Getting Intimate by MangoWorks

I go into every game wanting to like it, because what’s the point of trying them out otherwise? This is one that I really wanted to like though, because it has high-quality renders and a whole bunch of LIs (or potential LIs) that I would like to see a lot of in the future.

Sadly though, this is not a positive review. I’d list the good points, but I’ve already done that in the paragraph above. The only other good thing I think this game has going for it at the moment is actually more to do with the absence of certain (potentially) bad things. There’s no horrible, grindy sandbox. There’s no terrible “Engrish”. There are no gameplay issues that I found, and although there are a few free roams, they are not really worth having, just being a few clicks in a single room each time. It’s a very vanilla game so far, so if you don’t like incest, or NTR, or lesbians, or anything else, you probably won’t find it here at the moment.

The bad all stems from the writing, in my opinion. The story is slow, and while that’s not always a problem, here it just doesn’t seem to build to anything. It’s one of those where you keep expecting something to happen that will kickstart things, but nothing ever does. Especially on introduction, the character interactions are also pretty terrible. Most of the early interactions with the girls are really clumsily written. I don’t think anyone in the real world acts like the characters in this game do, and it is quite off-putting. Then there’s the new “best bro” (his words). I’ve seen some annoying characters in games, but I would be really hard-pressed to find someone on Satoshi’s level. It’s not just his introduction that is beyond ridiculous, every scene he’s in is about the same.

There are a few sex scenes in the game, but I don’t think they are anything special – not too long, varied, or animated. These mainly fall down though because they don’t really fit into the game. They just feel like lewds for lewds’ sake. I think there’s maybe one that might feel like it comes up at an appropriate moment, but even then the dialogue leading up to it wasn’t exactly a natural build up. It was a bit like “talk talk talk, anyway, do you want have sex?”

I played this game a while ago and couldn’t remember if there was a specific reason I didn’t continue. Now I’ve played it again, I wish I had started making notes on the games I abandon earlier…

Game of Inches by Remveer

I just realised that the C1E3.1 release for this has just dropped, so I’ll start by saying I’ve played up to C1E2.1 and so my comments refer to that update and things may have changed since. I think this game is a bit of a mess. Actually, I don’t know if that’s the appropriate word to describe it, since it’s not confused or poorly coded or anything, but it just doesn’t seem to quite have its feet under it.

It’s a bit slow starting, and I admit that I started to get a little bored going through the build-up. Once we meet the first LI though, although things move pretty quickly with her, they do feel a lot better. Some of the character interactions don’t feel very age appropriate for me, and that’s one of the areas I thought the writing was a bit messy. The biggest instance that comes to my mind is the MC thinking that he needs to surprise his sister, so he decides to knock some bottles of water from her dresser onto the floor and then run away – the sort of thing I’d expect from an eight-year-old, not an eighteen-year-old…

It's a sports game (or just a game centred around sport, if that makes it different enough), and I should mention that, so far, although American football plays a big part in the story, it’s not something that you need a big awareness of to play the game. It doesn’t have a load of jargon in the dialogue, and there are no gameplay elements (yet?) relating to the sporting side of it.

I mentioned the coding being fine, but in terms of the relationships, that’s one thing that I actually did like. The first relationship to set is your “host”, which logic tells you to retitle as your “mom” –then, instead of asking you to fill in relationships for others, such as Sephora, it automatically does this based on your previous answer. So if Lianna is now your mom, Sephora becomes your twin sister, if not, Sephora is Lianna’s daughter and your childhood friend, who happens to share the same birthday as you.

The renders are a bit below-average for the style, in my opinion. The models look okay, if familiar, but some of the poses look really awkward. Sephora’s facial expressions are very over-exaggerated, to the point of being comical, and some of the views of Lianna in particular look weird. The first sex scene is also a bit odd. Although it’s mostly well-planned, with a variety of stages to it, for the first part, as MC is spreading kisses down the LI’s body, he has his hand on her face with his thumb practically in her eye. Other than that looking odd, the rest of the scene, and subsequent sex scenes are fine, if not special.

Some of the backgrounds look too basic for the models placed on them, as well. This might just be the football field, which I don’t think looks anywhere near realistic enough, but it adds to the overall feel of the game for me. The last thing regarding renders is that there are occasional errors that look odd. At one point, Sephora wears her hair up, and there are strands falling down around her face that are not attached – it doesn’t look in the slightest like AI has been used, but it’s the sort of thing that AI commonly gets wrong and is odd to see in a non-AI image.

Girlfriend by Paola

This is a game that I’ve been giving “one more chance” to for the last few updates, but have finally decided which side of the coin it falls on for me (see if you can guess…).

The idea is one that has some interesting elements to it – you confess your fetish to your girlfriend, only to find out that she has previously experienced this with an ex, and is open to doing it in your relationship too; and there’s the possibility of stealing someone else’s (your boss’s) harem, which includes your girlfriend’s mother.

Overall though, there are too many aspects that I’m not interested in, and not enough of those that I am. Those aspects that I am interested in are also intertwined with the ones I am not, so it seems there’s no escaping “the bad” if I want to get to “the good”. There are also a lot of extraneous scenes in the game, with additional stories coming in that don’t feature the “MC” or “FMC” – quotes added because they are no longer the “main” characters.

In terms of the execution though, I don’t think this game works very well, not for me at least. The renders are average, but I actually found that I didn’t have an LI I really liked the look of. Almost all of them had something that I didn’t like about them (often it was their breasts and/or nipples that just didn’t look right to me), and as the girls are always going to be one of the main selling points, that’s an issue.

The coding is also a bit messy. There are lots of choices where you can’t actually pick one of the two because you “don’t have that experience” – because you didn’t pick certain other options earlier. Other games would hide the option you cannot pick. Sometimes you don’t pick an option, but later on, dialogue refers to the event that didn’t therefore happen, as if it had happened. In the latest update (1.25) I accidentally picked one of the options that should have told me “I don’t have that experience”, only for it to play on, talking about a path that I wasn’t on, in a combination of these two issues…

By design (I believe) the pathing is also quite strict, meaning you can accidentally fall off a certain character’s path just by failing to pick one correct choice somewhere along the way. Usually, it’s not something obvious, and certainly not something that warns you this choice “closes X path”, for instance.

From reading the game thread, it seems to me that this is a really good example of trying to give the players what they want, only to realise that every player wants something different, and then trying to include it all anyway and finding that suddenly everything’s overflowing from the mixing bowl. It’s all just a bit of a mess for me, and so it’s finally time to make it an ex-girlfriend.

I see a couple of people (hello Joshy!) saying that about her, but I'm lucky I guess, in that I'm not much of a fan. Of the "main" girls at least, Katrin is the only one I actually like.

But honestly I wouldn't say it's the character I like so much about the girlfriend but rather the relationship more. As for me her character really only shines when she is with the MC. Cause I do find when As that's the real reason I even like NTS / sharing games.

But outside of any scene with the MC I find she is just okay if im being honest depending on the scene. As I do like when she is being flirty with her co workers for example I find that fun but

tbh I like Mustapha and maybe her boss. As I felt they were the only ones that treated her decently enough. But yeah they don't feel like someone that would fit well with the dynamic with her and the MC outside of a cheating (NTR) scenario to me.

Mark for me is a mixed bag loved him with the FMC however all the weirdness with him and the MC brings his path down for me.

Beyond Tomorrow by Dream Games

When people talk about games that have beautiful renders, the ones I tend to hear about are Summer’s Gone, Summer Heat, and Dreamland. There are others that occasionally come up too, but those are probably the ones I hear of the most. I’m here to tell you that I think Beyond Tomorrow should be spoken about in that same conversation. Seriously, it looks fucking beautiful, and all of the women in it so far can also be described that same way.

I cannot think of a game I’ve played where the women look consistently so good. I have no idea who will be LIs, although I’ve pretty much eliminated two (unless some things change), but I’d go for every last one of them here. Taking the women out of it, the other renders look great too, from nighttime city views, to little bird close-ups, it just looks fantastic.

I’ve only played Chapter One, but looking at the game thread, I’m hopeful that Chapter Two will be along soon – and in there, hopefully some progression. The story we have so far is a bit slow, but it’s engaging enough, and I like some of the setup we have, especially with some family trauma that threatens to hit me in the feels when it gets resolved, one way or the other. There is plenty of intrigue as well, though most of it is kind of under the radar. It’s not in your face, but there are little hints here and there – a facial expression in one render, some dialogue in another scene, a single image showing a gun lying on a coffee table…

The GUI looks really nice too, and although there isn’t much to say about it, the gameplay seems tidy enough. There are a few choices to make, but nothing that feels big or consequential so far – although I guess one or two of them could go that way. Either way, I’m excited to see more of everything on show here, from the visuals to the story, and also to check out what the lewd scenes will be like (and who with). So far, there are two scenes that include topless girls, but no sex. Hopefully Chapter Two will add some of that as well.

Yeah, I saw that picture and liked it. I was going to include her but figured I'd leave her for now since she's not in the game as I've played it yet. Complaints that it wouldn't happen. You know, the standard: Why make the sister so hot and not let us fuck her whining. And yes that's what I was referring to, must have been in Chapter 1.

Yeah, I get that with remakes. Sometimes I play the original for comparison, or to see stuff that's now cut, but it can muddle things too!

Worst case, it’ll be in April, but only if something goes really wrong (more like a backup plan)

Yeah, I saw the release date note and added it to my spreadsheet. It's a good time to have found the game, though maybe just as Ch2 comes out would have been slightly better! I agree it's right up there in visuals, and it has good potential for story - I just need a bit more of it to see how it goes or whether it will peter out. I admit, I'm a sucker for bringing the family back together, so the MC/Olivia stuff I really liked and hope that is continued well.
