My one biggest problem with Unity games, and I too have heard a ton of hate for Unity in the last couple of months... Not too RPGM levels yet, but its the 2nd most hated of the big 3 engines people prefer. (Ren'py, Unity, RPGM) The others are basically non factors that just get hate in general or are super niche like Java, Flash Player, HTML, and Tyrano....

Anyway back to the original point, my main problem with Unity games is how hard they are for modders to "fix"... Here are some examples of good games that people are starting to turn on, or dont get as much love due to Unity...

1. Lucky Mark - Super Alex uses 1080p images for his game or some crap, because despite the low amount of progress and sex scenes in this game by v.12 its already at a whopping 8GB, people are pissed having to download a game this size every month... The dev's fault sure, but due to it being Unity non of the usual crowd can compress it (bossaplesauce, crust, kasey, pepe le pew).

2. School, Love and Cousins (Friends) - This game was in Tyrano or in Game Maker before, and while it had its own bugs and limitations once it switched over to Unity it made it super hard for people to switch it back to its "incestual glory"... so people dont try it till the modder (I believe redknight) comes out with a patch for it, and he has commented many times that it usually takes him a month before he can make it due to Unity's code...

There are plenty more, but these are the two biggest examples of why Unity sucks... no compression, and no patches due to Unity's hard coding... if those two games were Ren-py they'd be seeing a compressed version within 24 hours of release, and a patch (incest or otherwise) in 2-3 days tops !

I have trust in Lewdlab to deliver a good project, i just hope he doesnt fall into one of those two pitfalls... after all DoD was pretty meaty before compression...

You make some really good points, to which I agree, even if it is still not the engine itself to blame.
But of course Timestamps is again a good example for how you can have a perfectly fine working incest patch in a Unity game. ;)

Haven't really seen the mom yet, because I'm having difficulty accessing any content beyond the sisters, but so far I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with the models. They just don't look that good to me, a major step down from DoD, imo. Maybe there's some final polishing or something still to be done, given it's a beta/demo?

The renders that are in there are probably done as they are. If anything the beta might indicate that the UI needs more work or some writing, and adding sounds and stuff. Lots of polishing to be done around the gameplay but renders are generally not the thing that will get changed, unless more are added.

I see. Well, the younger sister isn't too bad, and having seen the mom, she's OK, looks a bit like the default on a character customisation screen, but maybe she'll grow on me.

Like I said surprisingly didn't have any problems with the game. From an year The Twist and MotH are working only when they want.I can't remember any problem with SU or BB and they too are using Unity.
The main issue for me is you can't rollback and can't save everywhere. And sometimes we have like 5 minutes of dialogue 1 choice another dialogue and finaly can save.
BTW just finish watching last episode of RWBY:)
Ruby did amazing job and now we have a game with another Ruby:)

I don't think that Lewdlab would choose Unity if he didn't know how it works. He definitely learned a lot about this engine and like i said Unity is an amazingly impressive engine. Games like Hollow Knight, Cuphead, Subnautica a tons of more are using Unity and these games are amazing. Let's just give Lewdlab a little bit more time to work and you all won't be disappointed.

You are comparing apples with oranges here, hollow knight, cuphead, or subnautica were made by programmers not artists. Artists did artwork, programmers did the game. This is sort of the general consensus around most VN's today, a developer is generally only as good as its tools, and a programmer makes his own tools if he feels others lacking. Almost everyone using assets for making their unity games, use assets that is literally described as "make games without knowing how to code!"

For example, adventure creator, that lewdlab is using, their marketing slogan is literally "With Adventure Creator, you can develop a complete 2D or 3D adventure game in Unity without writing a single line of code. ". Which means he is at the mercy of that asset. :)

Didn't Lewdlab hire a programmer or something. And now Dr.Sin can focus on making renders.
And btw I just wanted to say that Unity is a great engine and people shouldn't shit all over it.

I highly doubt there is a programmer working on this full time. At least no way this was done over the course of months or even more than a few weeks. The code is of quite varying quality. I can see it beeing done by either a freelancer, or on-demand thing, or the programmer in question only had a short time. I think most of the time other than rendering has gone to set the scenes and dialogue up in the editor. :)

Well you're probably right but we'll see how this game turns out in a couple of months. ;)

Awesome renders and bad ass MC. Looks like another winner from Lewdlab. Not sure if this was just intro but saving process is cumbersome.

Why Unity? I've rarely liked unity. This developer could change my mind but I turned on and clicked close with out playing. Unity for me, I needs months of updates before worth playing.. Bugs ext... Best of luck will keep reading..

Hi:

Just throwing it out there and hoping it helps the dev. I realise its a Beta but nonetheless. If you save part way into the game and reload, some later scene images are not displayed and instead are replaced by the Living room background.

The only way for me to see all images in a scene was to play the game right through from start to end once without a save and reload and making sure that I don't mouse click too fast to advance the story.

Cheers
